Charice Talks Gender Identity On ‘Oprah: Where Are They Now?’ — ‘My Soul Is Like Male’
“I knew [I was gay] when I was 5,” the singer reveals in a sneak peek for the episode, which will air on Oct. 19. “I was in grade school and I saw this girl and I felt different. I didn’t know what it was, but I just knew that time, like it felt special. And when I was 10 I was like, ‘Oh, that’s it. I’m gay.’ I found the word.”
In the preview, Oprah, who invited the singer on her talk show in 2010, asks Charice, “Were you thinking about transitioning to become a male?”
“Not exactly transitioning to a male, but basically my soul is like male,” Charice explains. “But I’m not going to go through that stage where I’m going to change everything – not change my body. I would change, like, this look: Cut my hair and wear boy clothes and everything, but that’s all.”
Charice: Starring On ‘Glee’ & Coming Out
Charice has certainly changed her appearance. She’s no longer the younger, long-haired self that her fans are familiar with. For her appearance on the show, Charice sported a blonde buzz-cut and a collared black shirt.
Charice joined the cast of Glee during its second season, playing the role of exchange student Sunshine Corazan. She appeared in three episodes before mysteriously disappearing (isn’t that the case for most background players on the FOX series, though?).
She came out as a lesbian in 2013.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Isn’t Charice so brave for being so candid about her gender identity? Tell us how you feel!
