Celebs are proudly wearing purple today to celebrate the 6th annual Spirit Day, which raises awareness and promotes a beautiful cause!
To create recognition for LGBTQ youth that have been bullied or have faced difficulties due to their orientation, stars have embraced Spirit Day by wearing purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag! Lucy Hale, Mariah Carey and more shared their messages on social media! See them here!
Support For #SpiritDay!
Honoring the victims that have taken their own lives because of bullying and urging others to speak out against bullying, the cast of Pretty Little Liars is advocating the cause and has donned anti-bullying purple shirts in support of Spirit Day.
Similarly, the casts of Orange Is The New Black and The Fosters are also among those that have come out backing the cause. Laverne Cox, our favorite sassy inmate on OITNB, even filmed a video of support for the movement! As a transgendered advocate herself, Laverne refers to a statistic that states that a half of surveyed LGBT youths feel unsafe in school, and goes onto call the movement “a united stand against bullying”.
Will YOU Wear Purple?
The creation of Spirit Day came after the number of teen suicides related to homophobia began to soar, and so focuses on commemorating the lives of those we’ve lost while reminding us to take a firm stand against bullying.
We think it’s so great that the movement is gaining so much momentum from everyone that is making an effort to end bullying! But we want to know what you’ll be doing to celebrate the day! Will YOU be wearing purple?
