Taylor — it’s easy to understand why you’ve sworn off dating, after a string of disheartening romances. But despite your declarations of a committed single life in recent interviews, I urge you to NOT give up on love. Here’s why.
Taylor Swift, at 24, despite your prodigious talent and huge success, you are more typical than you think, when it comes to the trials and tribulations of love. Most young women your age, know exactly what you’ve been going through when you sing and talk about the frustrations and disappointments of love.
Taylor Swift: Dating Is Hard But Don’t Give Up
That’s because they’ve experienced exactly the same thing… over and over too. Their exes may not have famous names like Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer, but most young women have nevertheless had their own more than fair share of commitment phoebes, players and just plain jerks.
Sadly, there’s a lot of immature guys out there in the non-celebrity dating universe too.
It’s exactly because there are so many disappointing guys out there and failed romances, that songs about your own heartbreak, carry such real life resonance with your audience. Girls and women love you and your tunes because you “get it.” You are so real.
But Taylor, just because you’ve suffered through a broken heart more than once, doesn’t mean that you should throw in the towel on love, and neither should your fans.
You are all completely normal young women going through normal modern day “dating” experiences.
Yup, dating today is no day at the beach.
In this modern world, too many young men seem to feel like more open-minded attitudes towards sex and relationships mean that they can enjoy free and easy affairs without commitment.
Taylor, you’ve clearly been stung by it. Your string of hits from your new singles, ‘Out Of The Woods,’ and ‘Shake It off,’ to ‘Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ and ‘I Knew You Were Trouble,’ leave no doubt about it.
But getting involved with a bunch of loser guys doesn’t mean that you should throw in the love towel for good and just take comfort in the affection of your adorable kitties, Olivia Benson and Meredith.
“The idea of going on a date gives me a partial panic attack,” you told People magazine recently. “But I’m fine! I have two cats, that’s all I need.”
You explained to Rolling Stone that you haven’t had a date in 18 months since you split from Harry Styles.
Instead, you’ve been focusing on figuring out who you are — and that’s important for someone in their twenties to do. And you’ve also developed a close group of friends like Lena Dunham, Cara Delevingne and actress Jaimie King as well as still staying close to longtime BFF Selena Gomez.
“My group of friends are the most important thing to me right now… We all relate on different levels, but the one common thread between all of my friends is that I can trust them,” you explained to People.
I get it Taylor. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t good guys out there. Guys who would totally appreciate your smarts, originality, talent and energy, not to mention your beauty and courage.
Taylor: Great Guys Do Exist But May Not Be Celebrities
Those great guys do exist and would be thrilled to get to know you.
It may be a little hard for them to meet you — they aren’t necessarily in the celebrity world, though that doesn’t mean that they aren’t interesting or accomplished in their own arenas. Who says you have to find true love with another celebrity?
In any case, it’s absolutely terrific at 24 to concentrate on exploring your own self, though you already seem like a pretty assured and self-actualized young woman.
Following you own interests, having good times with close friends, snuggling your cats, are all terrifically meaningful things to do.
But don’t shy away from dating simply because paparazzi will take your picture with a new guy and that’s “not relaxing or alluring” or because “watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime.”
Taylor, you’ve got to live your life, even if the spotlight shines on it, because you’ve built a successful career in the entertainment business.
With the talent you have, you will be famous for your lifetime and you can’t give up on love for your long road ahead.
You deserve to find your soul mate who will be your lover and best friend ever. You deserve to have that fullness in your life.
So try not to worry about what the world thinks or jokes about, and continue to love your life just for you.
Every young woman goes through rocky romances, but real love has a way of finding most of them. It will find you too, if you let it.
