Following a close race on the evening of Oct. 11, Matt Kenseth totally attacked fellow NASCAR racer Brad Keselowski, putting him in a headlock! Check out the video and find out why they fought below!
NASCAR’s Matt Kenseth & Brad Keselowski Fight: Matt Attacks From Behind — Watch
In the video below, you can see that Brad was not at all prepared to have been jumped. Matt caught him entirely unawares, even putting him in a headlock before numerous men were able to separate the two.
The reason behind Matt’s surprise attack is best described by USA Today‘s Jeff Gluck and Mike Hembree, who reported:
“On a restart with 63 laps to go, [Brad] and [Matt] had a racing incident while vying for the lead. [Brad] thought [Matt] was pushing him and didn’t leave a lane up high toward the wall for [Matt], who had decided to try and pass. [Matt] was squeezed into the wall and bounced off it into [Brad], damaging both cars.
“Later, a caution came out with six laps to go. [Matt], who had gone a lap down after his damage, was the beneficiary of the free pass. On his way around the track, he drove across [Brad]’s nose and damaged the front end of the No. 2 car.”
Among other altercations between the two on the track, here’s what really set Matt off:
“Brad drove to pit road and chased Matt, who by then was undoing his safety belts (a common practice for drivers at that point after the race). He sideswiped Matt, then inadvertently hit the rear bumper of Tony Stewart.”
Matt Kenseth & Brad Keselowski’s Fight: Brad Was ‘Running Into Cars On The Cool-Down Lap’
While we can definitely understand Matt’s anger and frustration, violence was not really the answer, here. Brad, too, had his reasons for being upset, and Matt — at 12 years Brad’s senior — could have handled the situation with a little more grace and risen above Brad’s reckless behavior.
Given how dangerous NASCAR can be when there’s tension on the track, these two definitely need to cool off!
“[Brad] was doing something with Denny [Hamlin],” Matt said after the fight, according to USA Today. “The race had ended, and he’s running into cars on the cool-down lap.
“I mean, the race is over, and he comes down pit road and drives into the side of me. That’s inexcusable. He’s a champion, and he’s supposed to know better.”
