Kendrick Lamar basically set the internet alight when he released ‘i,’ his first single since his massively critically acclaimed album ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city.’ Three weeks later, the lyric video has been released, and it’s pretty powerful! Check out Kendrick’s latest offering and let us know what you think!
It looks like Kendrick Lamar, 27, is gearing up for a record as successful as his last. The response to his release of “i” could not have been more enthusiastic, and on Oct. 10 the rapper released a lyric video to accompany his upbeat anthem of self-love.
Kendrick Lamar’s ‘i’ Lyric Video: Rapper’s New Release — Watch
Halfway between a lyric video and a proper music video, Kendrick’s latest offering has people from all walks of life making heart symbols with their hands as the lyrics flash at the bottom of the screen — even opposing gang members are showing the love.
On the cover art for the track, two men — one wearing red, one blue — make the heart symbol with their hands, and the theme has obviously continued in the accompanying video.
Unfortunately, sometimes the lyrics are actually a little difficult to read. Kind of counterintuitive for a lyric video, but we’ll let Kendrick slide on this one!
Kendrick Lamar: Third Studio Album Release Date Not Yet Announced
“i” sends such a positive and empowering message of self-love and of love for others, which — to put it lightly — is not often the prevailing theme in mainstream rap music.
That said, we’re looking forward to the possibility of a proper, full-length video! (Not to mention his full third studio album, the release date of which has yet to be announced.)
HollywoodLifers, what do you think about Kendrick’s lyric video for “i?”
