Jan died on Oct. 9, TMZ reports. While a cause of death has not been officially announced, the outlet reports that Jan was battling a “serious illness.”
The comedienne was best known for starring on Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1991. She started the same year as Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman. One of her best characters on the late night comedy show was Candy Sweeney. She also did a number of impressions during her tenure.
Saturday Night Live has been rocked by tragedy in the past few months. In August 2014, legendary announcer Don Pardo passed away at the age of 96.
Our thoughts go out to Jan’s family and friends, as well as the Saturday Night Live cast. She will be missed.
