Florence Welch, Chris Martin and Stevie Wonder are just few of the celebrities who came together to officially launch ‘BBC Music,’ a new program on the network. On Tuesday evening, the network halted standard programming to air a star studded cover of the classic 1996 Beach Boys hit ‘God Only Knows.’
From young sensations like One Direction and Lorde, 17, to the music’s top icons, Stevie Wonder, 64, and Sir Elton John, 67, all of the performers handpicked by BBC, put their own spin on the Beach Boys single. The promo video aired across all of the corporation’s TV and radio stations for the first time in the network’s history. Watch the video here!
‘God Only Knows’ On BBC
Above all, celebrities voiced their appreciation of the BBC network as a whole, which is currently struggling to stay afloat. The promo video sends a not-so-subtle message: save BBC!
As you watch the entertainment ensemble, look out for enchanting effects such as Lorde’s whimsical wings and Kylie Minogue‘s bubbly entrance.
Naturally, the cover would not be complete without Beach Boy frontman Brian Wilson, 72, who plays the piano throughout the song. Brian, who wrote the catchy classic, says he was “incredibly humbled” that his song had been selected by BBC.
