Such devastating news. Famed Smiths singer, Morrissey revealed in a brand new interview that he has been diagnosed with cancerous tissue and has been hospitalized several times over the last 18 months.
So sad. Stephen Morrissey, 55, announced in a new interview on Oct. 7, that he has been battling cancer for the last 18 months. Despite his diagnosis, the former Smiths singer and songwriter remains positive, “If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good.”
Morrissey Cancer — Smiths Singer Reveals His Battle
The Daily Mail reports that the singer did not reveal exactly what kind of cancer he has, but did reveal how he is feeling during an interview with El Mundo. “They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever,” the singer said. “If I die, then I die. And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now I feel good.”
“I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.”
While this is the first time that the icon has mentioned cancer, he has had several health issues over the last few years. The site reports that his health concerns have included a bleeding ulcer in 2013, as well as a pneumonia and food poisoning. In June 2014 he also had a respiratory infection which was severe enough for him to cancel his US tour.
Besides being on a European tour, the 55-year-old is also working on his debut novel. “My novel is coming along well, but it would be presumptuous of me to talk about something that is not finalised yet,” he said. “It will probably be published next year and with luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy!”
Morrissey’s latest solo album, “World Peace Is None of Your Business,” was release back in July.
