The Oct. 2 episode of ‘Scandal’ featured blackmail, steamy makeout sessions, a real Fitz and Olivia moment (finally!) and an epic conversation between Mellie and Abby.
Season four of Scandal isn’t pulling back the reigns whatsoever. Jake (Scott Foley) started to uncover shady information surrounding Harrison’s (Columbus Short) death, Olivia (Kerry Washington) continued to try and get over Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), Cyrus (Jeff Perry) may have found a new love interest and poor Mellie (Bellamy Young) still can’t recover from Jerry’s death.
‘Scandal’ Recap: Booty Calls & Potato Chips
Olivia and Jake were out running just like a normal couple, but they weren’t exactly an official couple. Jake had booked a hotel for their booty calls! WHAT?!
“I don’t do booty calls,” Olivia told Jake. (That can be debated, Liv.)
But Olivia had a booty call of another kind waiting on a park bench. Cyrus wanted to have a chat with Olivia about a new assignment. Of course, Olivia protested that she didn’t work the for White House anymore, but we all know that’s a lie. Cyrus went for the jugular. He blackmailed her into helping him. He was going for financial blackmail and emotional blackmail.
Olivia’s task was to find the couple who was to be recognized at the State of the Union address. James Elliott was a former POW, while his wife Lisa had been shot and paralyzed while trying to save a student. When Olivia found the couple, they weren’t exactly living in bliss.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, Andrew and Cyrus were still discussing the upcoming State of the Union address. Elizabeth was pissed off over David’s nomination for Attorney General. Andrew wasn’t getting involved, but Cyrus was sure to remind him that his only job was to “stand and clap.” (Ouch.)
Meanwhile, Fitz was nowhere to be found. Instead, he was watching over Mellie as she continued to visit Jerry’s grave. He was the doting husband, ready to have her potato chips handed off whenever she wanted. Unfortunately, a photographer was on the scene to capture Mellie’s private moment.
As expected, the press freaked out about Mellie’s mental state. Let’s be honest, Abby didn’t handle the situation quite like Olivia would have, but hey, she tried.
Team Ballard and Rosen met up once again, and Jake wanted all the information surrounding Harrison’s death. Jake knew there was something more to Harrison and Adnan’s death and he was going to find out.
Olivia was doing the press rounds on the Elliotts, and even got a bit in the interview about Mellie. Abby overheard Olivia used the “private moment made public” line and she was pissed. She called Olivia up and told her to back off. She also dropped the bomb that Huck and Quinn had been screwing for months.
Fitz finally went to Mellie about the photo. In order to fix the problem, Fitz wanted her to go to the State of the Union address. We got a blip of the old Mellie again and she attacked Fitz. Cyrus stayed and Mellie tore off another piece of his heart when she said losing James was not the same as losing a child.
“A broken heart is a broken heart,” Cyrus replied. “To take on measure is cruelty.”
‘Scandal’ Recap: Abby’s Defining Olivia Pope Moment
In the midst of the multitudes of things going on in Fitz’s life, he couldn’t forget about Olivia. He watched Olivia on television during her interview. Because they live and breath in sync, Olivia was thinking about Fitz as well. However, she called Jake instead of Fitz. Olivia wanted a booty call at her place, but Jake was not obliging.
To help combat her disapproval over David’s nomination, Elizabeth uncovered photos of Lisa Elliott assaulted by her husband and brought them to Cyrus. Needless to say, Cyrus wasn’t happy.
Everyone knew the information was fabricated. David, Abby and Cyrus thought Harrison had buried the information. David wasn’t going down without a fight. He was going to win. David donned the Black Hat for a day and blackmailed a Senator to endorse him for Attorney General. So proud of you, David!
Cyrus found a nice guy (aka Papa McCall from Teen Wolf) at a bar after work. Cyrus tried moving on from James, but stopped himself before things went too far.
Quinn and Huck left the Elliotts to step inside the bathroom. They started fighting and nearly kissed, but a scream cut their rendezvous short. Lisa Elliott had stabbed her husband! Olivia gave the couple an ultimatum, which persuaded them to rethink their actions.
Olivia asked Huck about the situation, but he wasn’t opening up whatsoever. Looks like Olivia still has a lot of work to do concerning her Gladiators.
Abby broke the news to Cyrus that the Elliots wouldn’t be attending pre-reception. Cyrus was concerned about everything else but that. He knew she wouldn’t fail. Everything else was fair game for failure in his eyes.
Abby pulled a Pope moment by going to see Mellie. She wasn’t playing around either. “Children die, Mrs. Grant,” Abby told Mellie. Parents lose their children all the time and have to suck it up and move on. Mellie had to do that. She still had a job to do whether she liked it or not. Mellie was genuniely shocked by Abby’s brutally honest confronation, as was I.
Fitz and Abby showed up to the pre-reception to find Olivia there. And just like that, Olivia and Firz were the only two people that mattered. He asked if he could have the room alone with Olivia. (Dreams do come true!) Cue that lovely music that always plays when Fitz and Olivia are together. He wanted to know what she thought of his speech. As usual, Olivia was completely stand-offish, but it was to save herself from completely losing it. She helped him with his speech. Yes, this is baby steps to a possible reunion, but I’ll take it.
‘Scandal’ Recap: State Of The Grants
During Fitz’s highly-anticipated State of the Union address, he spoke about his family, just like Olivia had told him. He discussed how his family, including Mellie, were coping after such a loss. When he looked up, Fitz saw Mellie beside Lisa Elliott!
Fitz managed to pull off an incredible speech and include his views concerning the right to bear arms.
While everything seemed great, Mellie wasn’t. As soon as the speech was over, Mellie ripped off her pearls and collapsed on the floor. Fitz came running to her side. Poor Mellie.
While Jake was looking at surveillance tapes on Harrison, he spotted Charlie! Run, Charlie, run!
Jake’s investigation was cut short when Olivia showed up. She didn’t have time for the games, she just wanted Jake. She dropped her coat and unveiled her naked self right before Jake’s eyes. Commence the hot makeout sesh! (But let’s be real, she’s not over Fitz one bit.)
Cyrus and his mystery man ran into each other again and they also got down and dirty. However, unlike Olivia and Jake, Cyrus stopped himself once again before sleeping with Michael. (There’s something fishy about this guy.)
Yep, I was right. When Michael walked out of the hotel, he walked up to Elizabeth’s car! She’s trying to blackmail Cyrus!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think about tonight’s Scandal? Can you believe Elizabeth is trying to blackmail Cyrus? What’s her ultimate game plan? Is Olivia just using Jake to try and get over Fitz? Will Mellie be OK? Let us know!
