Oh glorious Thursday, we’ve been waiting all week for you — well, for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actually. And boy did the staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital deliver.
The drama continued this week on Grey’s Anatomy, but it wasn’t between Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and her sexy husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey). This time Mer released fury on her half-sister, newcomer Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) — but does she even know that she’s her sibling?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Dr. Maggie Pierce Takes Charge
There was a new narrator for this week’s Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, Oct. 2 and it was the new doc in town, Maggie.
The young doctor started the show off with a little peak into her personal life. We quickly find out that she has the most amazing and loving adoptive parents who are her number one fans, but we also get to see just how hard it is to juggle such an intense position at the hospital.
And having to work next to your difficult half-sister — who doesn’t even know you’re blood-related, doesn’t make it any easier.
Meredith Is At Odds With Her New Half-Sister
The stressed relationship between Meredith and her half-sister Maggie just keeps getting worse. But what Grey relationship is ever smooth? Maggie spent the episode trying to avoid Mer at all costs, and telling herself that she’s lived without a sister this long so she doesn’t need one now.
But as much as Maggie is trying to push the thought of having Meredith as family, she can’t help but see the positives in her. When Maggie walked into the cafeteria she was informed Meredith had adopted a beautiful sick baby, which makes her realize that just maybe Mer isn’t the black plague.
Those feelings didn’t last long, when the two sisters butted heads over a dying patient. Maggie was told personally by a cancer-ridden elderly women to “let her die” and when the patient flatlined for a second time in the matter of hours, Meredith insisted on saving her, but had to step aside and allow Maggie to do compressions (it was her patient). Maggie had different plans — she wanted to respect the patient’s wishes and opted to let the women die peacefully.
Meredith, on the other hand, was not happy about this decision and let it be known with a silent terrifying stare down, then removed her gloves and stormed out of the room.
As tough as she is, you can’t help but feel bad for Maggie. During this episode, she is constantly on the phone with her parents trying to tell them not to worry about her and her lack of friends and that she made the right decision with her job. Well, that was up until the end of the episode when she calls them to say, “I think it was a mistake coming here…I don’t feel like I can be myself.”
Maggie Reveals Her Secret To Meredith — They Are Sisters
The highest point of tension between the sisters came when Maggie decided to piece her “puzzle” together.
She finally revealed to Mer that she is in fact her half-sister!
But Meredith doesn’t believe her and thinks she is lying. She tells Maggie to stay away from her and then she walks away. Ouch. Now what?
Callie & Arizona’s Baby Drama
One of everyone’s favorite Seattle Grace couple is trying to figure out how they will juggle their expanding careers and home life.
Callie and Arizona spend this episode debating on whether they can have a second child together, and still somehow manage to pursue new projects at work. It gets pretty heated at one point, but no worries — by the end of the episode, these two love birds choose family over work and all is rainbows and sunshine again!
Jo Doesn’t Know When To Keep Her Mouth Shut
We all have a love hate relationship when it comes down to Jo (Camilla Luddington), but in this week’s episode, she continues to do what she does best: run her mouth.
This time, it was to Maggie about her boyfriend doctor Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). She made the mistake of bragging about confidential work information (trying to get the seat on the board). Maggie, in turn, took Jo off her service — she just never learns.
It didn’t last long, Jo kissed her butt for the remainder of the show and got back into Maggie’s good graces. But Karev was pissed at her. (What else is new?)
And Then There Was A Singing Fish
As for the most entertaining scene of the night, that came when a singing ukulele-playing fish came into the hospital in search of Maggie. Sent by her parents, this musical gram was delivered to cheer her up and put a smile on her face — which it did, as well as the entire floor of her co-workers, who then made fun of her through the episode. Poor Maggie! This girl just can’t catch a break.
Did we mention a girl came in after having a stroke during a quick sexcapade with a stranger she had met only an hour previously? Yes, that happened.
In the words of Maggie, “Most puzzles come down to one last piece of information, whether it’s the answer to a medical mystery or to the question of who you are or where you fit, it all comes down to that last piece.” As for her relationship with Meredith, well, that puzzle doesn’t seem to be fitting anytime soon.
What do you think HollywoodLifers, should Meredith open up and accept Maggie, as her family? Do you think Callie and Arizona should have another kid? Do you like Dr. Maggie? Let us know.
