Who knew that George Clooney was such a classic romantic? For the first time ever, read all the details from his extravagant wedding! From Amal Alamuddin’s hand-embroidered Oscar de la Renta gown to extravagant guest favors, theirs just may have been the wedding of the year! (Apologies to Kimye and Brangelina.)
Amal Alamuddin, 36, and George Clooney, 53, did their wedding up Brangelina style (even though the famous BFFs did not attend) — their wedding album ran exclusively in People in the U.S. and in Hello internationally, and the features contain tons of details from their lavish Sept. 27 ceremony in Venice, Italy. HollywoodLife.com talked about the exciting photos on our hit VH1 morning show, The Gossip Table, and you won’t believe why George and Amal opted to sell the pics!
Amal Alamuddin & George Clooney Married: Details From Their Extravagant Wedding
“Other than a hangover,” as George joked to People, guests brought home iPods with “a playlist chosen by the couple.” How special is that? Worth noting is that Bono, 54, was at the nuptials — we wonder if there was an Apple-enforced U2 album on that playlist?
The ceremony, a tight 30 minutes long, had Amal decked out in a gorgeous lace gown by Oscar de la Renta and George in Armani. A special addition to George’s outfit were custom cufflinks gifted to him by Amal, on which “George” was inscribed in Arabic. Amal’s dress was “hand-embroidered with pearls and diamanté accents.”
During the ceremony, the couple were serenaded by Nora Segal, the daughter of friends of theirs, to sing Irving Berlin‘s “Always.” (Which, fun fact, is George’s parents danced to at their own wedding.)
The couple sealed their union with platinum wedding rings and a “lengthy” kiss, as People put it. Could you imagine George Clooney getting hitched in any other way?
There were just 100 guests at the wedding, including, of course, Matt Damon and a host of other famous faces. Anna Wintour‘s presence led to some reports claiming that the wedding photos would be exclusive to Vogue; indeed, photos of Amal’s dress fitting did appear on Vogue‘s site.
You’re probably wondering where the money for the intimate photos went and that would be to the Satellite Sentinel Project, which George is a co-founder of and it helps prevent war crimes in the Sudan.
George Clooney: Amal Alamuddin & I ‘Are Looking Forward To Everything’
Amal’s mother, Baria, certainly approves of her daughter’s whirlwind romance with the Gravity actor. “I said, ‘George, we love you truly, deeply and sincerely. We enjoy your charm, your wit, intelligent conversation and generosity. You are simply perfect,'” Baria told People; she was one of four to deliver a speech.
For their first dance at the reception, the newly-minted Mr. and Mrs. Clooney danced to Cole Porter‘s “Why Shouldn’t I?”.
Said George’s father, Nick Clooney, at the ceremony: “George and Amal present us with … belief that in this place and at this moment, love is alive and well,” reports People, and George revealed to the mag that the couple are “looking forward to everything” in their lives to come.
“My verdict on being Mr. and Mrs. Clooney? It feels pretty damn great,” George told Hello.
HollywoodLifers, are you happy for George and Amal? How gorgeous are their wedding photos? Most importantly: was there a U2 album on those iPods?!
