Taped on Sept. 19, the iHeart Radio Music Festival will air on the CW network on Sept. 29. Ariana Grande looked amazing during her set — an expert makeup artist and hairstylist break down her look below!
Giovanni Vaccaro, Creative Director of GLAMSQUAD explains how to get Ari’s signature, half-up pony:
“With a tail comb for precision, or your finger for a more natural look, part the hair off from the top of the ear to the crown of the head on both sides. Tilt the head back slightly, gather and smooth the roots of the hair with a flat boar-bristle brush to eliminate any bumps and create a sleek, even pony at the crown of the head.
Hold the base of the pony and pull the elastic from your wrist over the pony and twist it into a figure eight. To cover the elastic, take a small section from the bottom of the pony and tease one side of it. Wrap the hair around the base of the pony — leaving the smooth side of your small section visible and the teased side down — and pin the ends underneath. Use some hairspray to secure your pony and smooth any flyaways.”
How to — prep:
This is a great second-day style for hair that has been blown out or smoothed already. To get the hair to lay down flat around the face, dampen the roots of the hair around the face and blow-dry back with a flat brush. For maximum tension and smoothness on curly/wavy hair, use a large, round, boar-bristle brush when blowdrying to eliminate frizziness. Optional: Flatiron for a stick-straight finish.
Products
Use a wax or pomade for smoothing when gathering the hair into the pony and then Kerastase Elixir Ultime Serum for the finish on the ends for a smooth, reflective sheen.”
Kelli J. Bartlett, Director of Makeup Artistry at GLAMSQUAD, explains how to get her makeup look:
“Ariana’s look is all about a classic, feminine cat eye, accentuated with faux lashes and a coordinating mauve lip. To get Ariana’s look, start with a full coverage matte foundation, such as Hourglass Immaculate liquid powder foundation. Contour the skin with a matte bronzer — inside the cheekbones, across the forehead and underneath the jawbone to give definition.
Start with a champagne shimmer all over the lid. On the outer corners of the eye, apply a matte mauve shadow. Blend the two colors into the crease using a small fluffy brush. Charlotte Tilbury’s The Dolce Vita eyeshadow palette is the perfect choice for this look. Apply Eyeko liquid liner to the top lash line — making sure to add the signature flick at the edge of the eye. The inner rim of the bottom lash line should be lined with a black pencil eye liner to add intensity. Pop on a lash for some added drama! The matching mouth can be achieved by mixing MAC Absolutely It liner with Twig lipstick.
