‘How To Get Away With Murder’: Viola Davis Reveals Annalise Is ‘A Mess’
Introducing your newest TV goddess: Annalise Keating.
Played by Academy Award nominee Viola Davis, the law professor appears to be a fierce, tough-as-nails woman, but by the pilot’s end, viewers got a glimpse into her at-home life, and needless to say, it’s far from perfect.
“Annalise is very much a 21st century woman,” Viola says, in the interview above. “She has a tough exterior. That’s what gets her through life, that’s what makes her successful, that’s what gives her those leadership qualities. But then in her personal life, she’s a mess.”
In the premiere, we saw that Annalise is cheating on her husband with a man who’s covering for her in court, and by episode’s end, it was revealed that Annalise’s husband is DEAD. Adding more fuel to the fire (literally), her students are involved with covering up what appears to be his murder, and then light his body on fire to rid of the DNA.
Wondering where they got that idea from? You guessed it: Professor Annalise Keating.
Viola Davis Reveals What Attracted Her To The ‘HTGAWM’ Role
“I think at 49, I’m ready to step into who I am and step into what I feel like I deserve after 26 years, as a professional actress,” Viola says. “This is my time to step into a role as Annalise Keating, and step into my power as an actress.”
She continues, “When I looked at Annalise, that’s a fantasy role of mine. That’s the kind of role I want people to see me in.”
We’re so glad she took the role because only one episode in, we can’t get enough of Annalise.
