‘The Big Bang Theory’ returned with a bang…literally! Season 8 opened with the highest ratings of premiere night, coming in with almost 18 million viewers, and that audience is wondering, what’s next for Penny, Leonard and Sheldon.
Sheldon (Jim Parsons) returned from his not-so-perfect train adventure on the Sept. 22 premiere of The Big Bang Theory, but is he about to face new problems with his best friend, Leonard (Johnny Galecki)? Now that he’s engaged to Penny (Kaley Cuoco), will Sheldon be forced to move out?
‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 8: Will Leonard & Penny Move In Together?
We already told you that Penny and Leonard’s wedding isn’t coming up any time soon, thanks to Johnny Galecki’s hilarious interview, so the next sensible discussion for a newly-engaged couple would be cohabiting, right?
Big Bang showrunner Steve Molaro teases the pair’s next step, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “As of now, Leonard and Penny are not in a rush to get married so the living arrangements as we know them will stay put.”
While moving out won’t be a problem in the near future, other relationship issues will arise.
“I don’t think they’re in a rush. They’re happy, they’re engaged and, like a lot of people, they may be engaged for a while,” says Steve. “But it does raise issues like money, combining money in the future and who has credit card debt and what that all means. Those kind of issues start to come up, which I find more interesting than the actual wedding planning.”
Will Penny Come In Between Sheldon & Leonard?
At some point, Sheldon’s gotta realize that Leonard is engaged, meaning less time with his bestie and more time with his fiance.
“We’re not interested in making drastic changes to the fabric of the show,” Steve says. “Leonard and Sheldon not living together would be a drastic change. At some point down the line we may experiment with it and see how it goes and how it affects Sheldon.”
Phewf. We’re not ready to see these two part ways, and turns out, either is Sheldon, and Penny and Leonard know that.
“Leonard and Penny also don’t want to deal with the headache of putting Sheldon out because they know it will only make their lives harder,” the showrunner adds. “That may be one of the reasons that they’re also not in a rush to the altar…It shows how weirdly co-dependent Leonard and Sheldon are. I don’t think you marry Leonard without kind of marrying Sheldon.”
But wait — we want to see them at the altar! Guess we can’t have our (wedding) cake, and eat it, too.
HollywoodLifers, do you think that Penny and Leonard should live together without Sheldon? Should Leonard and Sheldon live together forever? Or should all three just be a big happy roommate family? Let us know!
