How awful. After being attacked with an assault rifle by the father of her child, a mother somehow managed to save her baby’s life by placing her in the toilet before dying. So sad.
Jessica Arrendale, 33, bravely saved the life of her 6-month-old daughter, Cobie Davis, after being shot in the head by the girl’s father, Antoine Davis, 30, a former U.S. Marine. After attacking the mother of his child and their infant, police believe Antoine took his own life in another room.
Mom Saves Infant Daughter After Being Shot By Girl’s Father
This is so sad.
In the final moments of her life, Jessica Arrendale, a mother of three, found the strength to save her infant daughter from her own father, Antoine Davis, in her Atlanta, Georgia home.
On the night of Saturday, Sept. 13, police believe Antoine became “violent” when the couple returned home from spending a night out together, reports People magazine. The report claims that Jessica tried to defend herself with a baseball bat while holding Cobie close to her body, but Antoine was able to take it from her and use it against both her and Cobie.
Multiple reports claim that Antoine then chased Jessica up the stairs of the three-story home, and that the desperate mother locked herself in a bathroom hoping to avoid any further attacks. Unfortunately, Antoine then became murderous. Grabbing an assault rifle, he broke down the bathroom door and shot Jessica in the head. At the time, she was holding Cobie in her arms.
Somehow, even with a gunshot wound to the head, Jessica found the strength to twist her body into a position where she could fall over the toilet bowl. Jessica placed Cobie into the toilet, and then shielded the infant with her body as she died from her injury.
Antoine’s body was discovered with what police believe was a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound to the head in Cobie’s bedroom. Awful.
Antoine May Have Intended To Kill Cobie As Well
It wasn’t until 13 hours after this horrific tragedy that Cobie was discovered alive and suffering from hyperthermia inside the toilet. The 6-month-old was rushed to a local hospital in Atlanta where she is also being treated for a severe head injury.
Police believe the head injury may be from being struck by the baseball bat that Antoine originally used to attack her and her mother. However, if it wasn’t for Jessica’s bravery, Cobie may not be alive today.
“She had pure will,” Teresa Inniello, Jessica’s mother, told local news affiliate WSB Radio. “She wanted that baby to live.”
“[Antoine] shot her and [the police] don’t know how she was able to twist her body and fall literally in the opposite direction,” Teresa bravely explained during a time of heartache, also sharing that she believes Antoine intended to kill her granddaughter, Cobie.
Teresa is hoping to bring Cobie home from the hospital soon. Sadly, little Cobie will never know her own parents now that they are both gone forever.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Jessica and her daughter, Cobie, during this difficult time.
