Oh baby, baby — the schoolgirl look is making a major comeback! Britney Spears may have started the trend in the late 90s, but now it’s back in a big way, with Taylor sporting the style just days after Ariana rocked it on stage — but who do YOU think pulled off the outfit better? VOTE.
While many celebrities are all about 90s fashion, two of music’s biggest stars rocked the school girl look in a big way this week! Ariana Grande, 21, rocked the plaid skirt and high socks look during a performance on Sept. 14 in Japan while Taylor Swift, 24, decided to take the look to the streets of New York on Sept. 16. Both leading ladies sported similar looks — but do you have a favorite?
Ariana Grande’s Schoolgirl Outfit:
The 90s are back, ladies! Ariana took the stage in Tokyo, Japan to preform hits off her of album, My Everything, while wearing a Britney Spears-inspired ensemble. The songstress looked like a carbon copy of the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” singer, but was able to give it a new spin. Instead of wearing a white button-down shirt, Ariana opted for a tight grey American Apparel crop top that showed a little skin, which she paired with an Alice + Olivia paid skirt. To complete the look Ariana wore white knee-high socks from American Apparel with white stilettos and she topped off the whole look with her staple hair style. Ariana looked super cute working the stage in Japan!
Taylor Swift’s Schoolgirl Outfit:
While Ariana may be preforming on stage to promote her album, T-Swift is taking the streets of New York while rocking a similar schoolgirl look. Instead of being bold like Ariana, Taylor gives the school girl look a toned down feel as she sported a sweater with a plaid skirt and maroon-colored, knee-high socks. Taylor has been spotted leaving her Soho apartment wearing knee-high socks, and this weekend was no different! This look is much more casual — so casual that Taylor even paired the look with her new kitten, Olivia! It doesn’t get much cuter than that.
Who would have thought when Britney debuted this look in 1998 that today’s top singers would still be sporting the trend? What do you think? Who rocked the schoolgirl look better?
