Get ready to cry. Derek Jeter is advertising Gatorade in a whole new way — an amazing fan-filled commercial. We see the Yankee walking around NYC, hanging at the local bar with lifelong fans, and signing baseballs for kids… and it’s all to the music of Frank Sinatra. Watch the black and white video here.
Derek Jeter continues to win our hearts, over and over again. The Captain stars in a new commercial for Gatorade, set to “My Way,” by Frank Sinatra, and this time it’s not celebs tipping their hats — instead it’s the Yanks star celebrating the fans.
Derek Jeter’s Gatorade Video — Get Your Tissues
It’d be an understatement to call Derek Jeter fans loyal. For 20 years now, no. 2 has been the face of the Yankees, and deservedly so. The always respectful shortstop is paying it forward to the fans in the new commercial for Gatorade, released on Sept. 18.
The commercial is all done in black and white and begins with Derek on the way to the stadium. He tells his driver to stop and that he’ll walk the rest of the way. For Yankee fans, we see that he gets out on the strip right outside the stadium where the local businesses and bars sell to fans. He hugs fans, and stops into the local pub where he’s greeted by an extremely excited owner. “I’ve been waiting for you to come in here since ’98 at the least,” he says to Derek, who answered, “you never invited me!”
He then signs the beer tap, which is decorated with his ’96 Rookie card — or what Derek calls, “this old thing.”
The whole video is full of moments like this — showing the real side of Derek Jeter. And of course, it ends with his routine: He puts on that jersey, walks out of the dug out, taps the Joe DiMaggio sign and heads on to the field to tip his hat, once again, to the fans.
