This is very touching. The last official portrait of Joan Rivers appears in the October 2014 ‘Royals Issue’ of ‘W’ magazine. The glamorous tribute is fitting for the comedy legend.
Before Joan Rivers passed away on Sept. 4 at 81 years old, she took part in a photo shoot and interview with W magazine. In the October issue, the mag calls Joan the “Queen of Comedy” and features her glamorous last portrait, filled with fur and diamonds.
Joan Rivers In ‘W’ Magazine: Late Star’s Last Official Portrait
Joan’s black-and-white photo in W magazine is chic and fun — it perfectly encapsulates Joan’s spirit. In the photo, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the comedienne is covered in diamond rings and bracelets. She is also wearing fur. She looks beautiful.
According to the magazine, this photo is the last official portrait taken of Joan. Inside the mag, Joan, who paved the way for women in comedy, spoke candidly about being an outsider. She told W Editor Lynn Hirschberg:
“I’ve always been an outsider, and that’s okay. I’ve never been invited to the White House. I’ve never been given awards. I’ve never been to the inside of anything. My maid was invited to the Vanity Fair Oscar party, and she asked if she could borrow a wrap! [Laughs] My comedy has made me a total outsider, but that is what has kept me sharp all these years. To be relevant, you have to be an outsider.”
Melissa Rivers: Joining ‘Fashion Police’ For Joan Tribute
The E! channel has declared Friday, Sept. 19 “Joan Day.” Joan’s beloved daughter, Melissa Rivers, 46, will join Fashion Police hosts Kelly Osbourne, 29, Giuliana Rancic, 40, and George Kotsiopoulos, 45, to honor Joan in what’s sure to be an emotional 90-minute special.
The special Fashion Police episode will feature never-before-seen show moments, behind-the-scenes footage and hilarious outtakes of Joan being silly with celeb guests.
We think this portrait is a wonderful way to remember Joan. Our thoughts continue to be with the comedienne’s loved ones as they deal with this loss. HollywoodLifers, don’t you love this sweet photo of Joan?
