Kanye West stopped his Sept. 12 concert to demand that a fan in a wheelchair stand up and dance to his music. Kanye has now spoken out about the situation, but is NOT apologizing. Watch the shocking video below.
In a new stage rant, Kanye West, 36, blamed the media, including people like Matt Lauer and Whoopi Goldberg, for making the public think he’s a “bad person” after he demanded a handicapped fan stand during his Sept. 12 concert in Australia. “Pick a new target,” Kanye passionately said during his stage speech.
No Kanye West Apology for Wheelchair “Stand up” Mixup at Concert
Oh, Kanye. Instead of apologizing for the concert misunderstanding on Sept. 12, he is seeming to blame everyone but himself. TMZ has released new video from Kanye’s show in Brisbane, Australia on Sept. 14.
Kanye went on a full rant about the incident on Sept. 12. He opened up to the crowd by saying he could’ve released a statement through a publicist, but “I can talk directly to you, my fans.”
He then seems to explain (it is Kanye, after all — we can never be sure exactly what he means) that he wants people like Today anchor Matt Lauer, View host Whoopi Goldberg and Good Morning America host Michael Strahan to pay attention to the real story. “Look at me for a second. Take a step back and look at this. I’m a married, Christian man with a family. At my concerts I make sure everybody has as good of a time as possible.” He ends by saying, “Pick a new target.”
Nowhere in Kanye’s stage speech does he say that he’s sorry for what happened. He comes off like someone who is claiming to be a victim. While it seems like the whole incident was a terrible misunderstanding, and Kanye had no idea the man he wanted to “stand up” was in a wheelchair, wouldn’t it be easy to just apologize for what happened? To say sorry to anyone he has hurt by this?

Kanye West: Tries To Force Wheelchair-Bound Fan To Stand During Concert
In case you missed it, here’s what happened at Kanye’s Sydney, Australia concert on Sept. 12. First, Kanye demanded that everyone in the crowd get up and dance. Two handicapped fans were singled out by the rapper for not standing up. Kanye said this to the crowd: “I can’t do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s**t,,” according to TMZ. Indeed, one fan was wearing a prosthetic limb and another was in a wheelchair.
At one point, the crowd, not knowing that the two people couldn’t physically stand, reportedly started to boo. The video of the incident is truly cringe-worthy. Despite Kanye’s non-malicious intentions, we feel very sorry for the handicapped fans who had to endure this treatment. Read about the original incident here.
