‘Dancing With the Stars’ Premiere — Season 19 Kicks Off With A Bang
The show wasted no time kicking off the season! First up, actor and model Antonio Sabato Jr. and pro Cheryl Burke danced the Cha Cha. Judge Len Goodman said he needs to work on his footwork, but for a first dance, it was well done! New judge Julianne Hough said she loved his extension. Bruno Tonioli called him an Italian Stallion — obviously. Carrie Ann Inaba said their amazing chemistry may hurt them, so they need to try to pull it together. They got a score of 25 out of 40.
Actress Lea Thompson and new pro Artem Chigvintsev danced the Foxtrot. Lea said her first love was dance, 32 years ago, so she was excited to get back to the ballroom. Julianne said, “it was so beautiful, it made me so happy!” Bruno said her quality of movement is exquisite. Carrie Ann said it was one of the best first Foxtrots she’s ever seen! They got a 32/40.
Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish and pro Valentin Chmerkovskiy danced a super sexy Jive to “Bang Bang.” “Spicy, hot, chili of a girl — naughty, naughty, naughty! I thought I was watching J-Lo,” Bruno raved. Carrie Ann said she has great potential. Len said it was sharp and clean. They got a 29/40. (Can we just talk about their chemistry? They are definitely the new Maks and Meryl!)
Olympian Lolo Jones and new pro Keo Motsepe danced the Cha Cha. Carrie Ann started by saying, “Lolo, that was more of an uh-oh.” Lolo chimed in to say, “It was awful. Every practice I’ve had was better than that. I’m so mad.” Len said, “It’s just one of those things…You had personality. You had sizzle. Not all bad, well done.” Lolo said in the skybox, “I’m mad. The hardest part for me is trying to be sexy and I felt like a robot.” They got a score of 22 out of 40. Lolo said she was expecting 1’s. Ouch. It was painful to watch.
Fashion designer Betsey Johnson (she’s 72 years old!) danced the Cha Cha with pro Tony Dovolani but got tripped up at the end due to a wardrobe malfunction. Len said, “I enjoyed it so much. It was so entertaining and then a disaster with the boa. I’m so upset.” Julianne told her, “girl, you are flexible!” They got a 20 out of 40.
Author and talk show host Tavis Smiley and pro Sharna Burgess took the floor to Foxtrot. Julianne said it was awesome because he seemed so comfortable. Bruno said, “the joyful side burst out of you like sunshine.” Carrie Ann said his movements are natural. They got a 29/40.
More ‘Dancing With The Stars’ — The Season 19 Premiere Continues
Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson and pro Mark Ballas danced a sassy Cha Cha to Katy Perry‘s “Birthday.” Bruno said, “Duckling no more! Here we’ve got a bird of paradise!” Carrie Ann said she is a star in the making! Len said, “quack, quack, you’ll be back!” They got a 34, including two 9’s from Julianne and Bruno!
Nascar driver Michael Waltrip and pro Emma Slater danced the Cha Cha. Carrie Ann said, “It was fun, entertaining and simple, so next week I want to see more steps.” Len said the engine was running but he never got out of first gear. They got a 25 out of 40.
Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett revealed how he used to watch DWTS with his father. His dad passed away two months ago and now he is dancing in his honor. So sweet! He danced the Jive with new pro Allison Holker. Julianne said, “You have the potential. You are such a natural performer, so overall I would say that was ‘gruel.'” (Mean Girls ref — love it.) They got a 30!
Comedian, actor (and original stoner) Tommy Chong danced the Cha Cha to Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” with pro Peta Murgatroyd. “I thought I liked older men but this is a whole new level because you are extremely sexy,” Julianne said. “You came out and it was painless, it was fun and I enjoyed it,” Len said. They got a 27 out of 40!
UFC Fighter and actor Randy Couture danced the Foxtrot with pro Karina Smirnoff. Bruno said he was light on his feet but criticized his shoulders. Carrie Ann said she was weak in the knees because he was so sexy! Len said it was “dandy, Randy.” Julianne said it was nice seeing such a manly man so graceful and sexy. They got a 31 out of 40!
Bethany Mota and pro Derek Hough danced a fun jive to Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off.” “It was tight, clean and well rehearsed. You’re so energetic. It was really bright,” Carrie Ann said. Len said based off that performance, she’ll be around for a long time. “Sunshine in a box,” Julianne said. Bruno said it was “tidy, precise, cute and wonderful.” They got a 32!
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro and pro Witney Carson danced the Jive and surprised everyone! Talk about saving the best for last! “A beautiful routine. That was, without question, the best dance of the night!” Len raved. Julianne said it was unbelievable! Bruno added, “The Prince of Bel-Air? You’re the King of the night!” They got a score of 36 — the top score of the night!
I think the top three are Bethany, Alfonso, and Sadie. But the budding love connection between Janel and Val will be fun to watch, too!
