TJ Lane, a convicted school shooter who escaped from prison on September 11, has been captured, officials confirmed. The 19-year-old is currently serving three life sentences for the brutal shooting of three classmates in 2012.
TJ Lane, 19, was captured on September 12 by police just hours after escaping from Allen Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio. The 19-year-old prompted a vast and quick-moving manhunt when he fled the prison. TJ was one of three inmates who escaped from the facility.

TJ escaped with another inmate from Allen Correctional Institution at around 7:30 p.m. on September 11, a spokesperson told NBC News. The 19-year-old was recaptured and taken into custody at around 1:20 a.m. on September 12, Ohio State Highway Patrol told the outlet.
Three law enforcement agencies and a helicopter were used to track down TJ. The other two inmates were also recaptured. TJ didn’t put up a fight when he was taken into custody, officials said, according USA Today. The authorities said he had a pitchfork at the time he was captured, the outlet reports.
TJ shot and killed three students — Demetrius Hewlin, 16; Russell King Jr., 17; and Daniel Parmertor, 16 — in the cafeteria at Chardon High School on February 27, 2012. He wounded three more, one who was reportedly left paralyzed.
He is serving three life sentences for the murders. On the day he was sentenced, TJ wore a T-shirt with the word “killer” written across the front and he shouted profanities in court, NBC News reports.
His escape caused the school district where the school shooting took place to cancel classes, NBC News said. Students were offered counselors to help deal with the scary turn of events.
“Our thoughts and prayers today go out to the families of Demetrius, Russell and Danny and all others affected by the tragedy as well as by the troubling events from Thursday evening,” Chardon Local Schools Superintendent Michael P. Hanlon, Jr. said in a statement to parents, according to NBC News.
We’re so glad this TJ was recaptured by police. Our thoughts also go out to the victims of his vicious crime.
