Ryan Atwood lives on! Ben McKenzie was the heartthrob of the 2000’s, but just because he’s all grown up, doesn’t mean he’s too cool to binge-watch ‘The OC!’
When we interviewed Ben McKenzie, our inner fangirl was screaming. When he told us that he still watches The O.C., we nearly fainted. Read on for the actor’s exclusive interview with HollywoodLife.com, and take a sunny coastal stroll down memory lane.
Ben McKenzie Admits He Still Watches ‘The OC’
The O.C. put Ben McKenzie on the map, and he’s been stealing scenes ever since with starring roles on the L.A. cop drama Southland and the upcoming Batman prequel series Gotham. But just because his roles have gotten a bit deeper than Ryan Atwood, he still lives on in his heart — and we’re swooning.
“Every year I sit through and watch four seasons,” Ben admitted exclusively to HollywoodLife.com at a FOX event in Los Angeles on Sept. 9. “Bizarre? No.”
We full-heartedly agree that it’s not bizarre (we do it, too), and we’re pretty much in love with the fact that Ben is still just as obsessed as we are.
Ben Recalls The Day He Became Ryan Atwood
Nowadays, Ben is a big TV star, but he hasn’t forgotten about his days before he played the bad boy from Chino.
“I was driving in my five hundred dollar car to my temp agency job…basically like a telemarketer,” Ben recalls of the days when he was a struggling actor. “The phone rang and they said I got The O.C. I did drive to work and I did tell my boss I’m not coming back, but that was about as much as I ever did. That was a pretty good moment.”
He’s about to get even more good moments with the premiere of Gotham (Monday, Sept. 22, FOX), which is one of the most highly-anticipated series of the new fall season.
He even told us that his Batman series is just like The O.C., but with villains! To be exact, “super villains!”
(We don’t know, Ryan — Volchok was pretty badass!)
HollywoodLifers, do you still binge-watch The O.C.? Don’t be afraid to admit it — Ben did, so you can, too!
