She writes her own music. She sings. She designs. L.A.M.B’s return to fashion week just reminded everyone that Gwen Stefani is the modern-day renaissance woman, (as if you could ever forget).
While it feels like everyday a new celeb is launching a clothing line, No Doubt frontwoman, (and new mentor on The Voice), Gwen Stefani, was one of the first celebs to foray into fashion in 2003 — and she brought her L.A.M.B Spring 2015 collection back to New York Fashion Week on Sept. 5 with a presentation that couldn’t have been more Gwen if she tried. As “Rock Steady” came on the models slowly emerged, ska dancing to the beat of the music and slowly turning, allowing the vibrant designs to be seen from every angle.
Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B Spring 2015 Collection At New York Fashion Week:
Forget about what’s coming down every other runway — this show was signature Gwen…and that’s why I loved it. Inspired by the idea of the “New Nomad,” tribal prints, bold black and white graphics, sweeping brush strokes, and batik prints were splashed across the wearable silhouettes as we saw loose-fitting trousers, floor-gazing dresses, and, (of course!), jumpsuits on the models. The collection stayed true to her laid-back, edgy, and cool Cali-girl sense of style — and it also made a bold statement! The explosion of prints and bright hues commanded attention, (and it also just looked like a lot of fun to wear).
Major fans of the line will be thrilled by the staple silhouettes and statement accessories, (like the trousers and the jumpsuits), while those re-discovering the label will be drawn to the wearability of the separates. All you have to do is throw on a pair of Gwen’s printed pants or pair one of the bold tops or purses with your favorite jeans and you’ll instantly feel just as cool as the Cali-native herself.
I get the opportunity to check out countless celebrity lines, and I really appreciated that the second I walked into the presentation, I felt Gwen all around me — and all you have to do is take one look at the collection and you can tell she’s truly behind each and every look that gets produced. Not only is it impressive, (and a true testament to Gwen’s talent), but it’s just another accomplishment to add to her ever-growing resume. On top of all her success on both the stage and the runway, let’s not forget she also has a family at home — and she balances it all with a bright smile on her face. If that doesn’t scream “Girl Power” I don’t know what does.
Personally, I’ve been a major fan of Gwen’s songwriting, (and her unique sense of style), ever since I popped No Doubt’s self-titled album into my Walkman — so it’s really great to watch her take center stage and step onto a major platform, whether it be another showing at New York Fashion Week or her debut on The Voice. It’s right where she belongs.
