Stand Up To Cancer: Italia Ricci & ‘Chasing Life’ Cast
Chasing Life quickly become one of our favorite shows this year, leaving its mark on TV with tear-jerking scenes, relatable characters and an extremely important message: cancer sucks.
Italia stars as April Carver, the lovable and witty 24-year-old aspiring journalist who’s unexpectedly hit with cancer. April kept her head up high, proving that life can go on, but as the first half of the season wrapped up, she entered treatment and it wasn’t easy.
That’s why Stand Up To Cancer is such an important cause to Italia and the cast, and we love that they’re using their star-power to raise awareness and help fundraise toward research.
Italia has been posting on social media, urging her fans to join the cause with her. “So excited to be a part of this!” she said on Instagram, days before posting another adorable picture of herself, in anticipation of the event.
Other cast members Aisha Dee (Beth), Scott Michael Foster (Leo) and Richard Brancatisano (Dominic) all donned the SU2C shirts hours before the telecast on Sept. 5.
‘Chasing Life’ Midseason Spoilers: April Lives Life To The Fullest After Chemo Treatment
The midseason finale left viewers with an emotional cliffhanger with Leo’s life possibly on the line, and Italia just entering treatment.
“In the mid-season finale she thinks she knows what she’s getting with chemo, she’s prepared herself. She thinks she is ready and she is not,” Italia told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY before the final episode. “She’s emotionally, physically, psychologically she starts to lose it. How strong she’s been through out the season, it all comes crashing down.”
Luckily, when the second half of the season picks up in early 2015, April will ease into better spirits.
“You get to see April sort of let loose,” Italia says exclusively. “She tries harder to make a point of being a 24-year-old girl, instead of constantly behaving as if she’s got other responsibilities of an older woman and juggling work and home and everything like that. She just sort of has this realization that she needs to enjoy this time of her life before it’s gone. So you see her go out and party and do terrible karaoke. She gets kind of a little more fun and the episodes aren’t all quite as heavy. There are still moments, but it’s a little bit more fun than sad.”
Stand Up To Cancer will be broadcast on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, American Forces Network, Bravo, Cooking Channel, Discovery Fit & Health, E!, Encore, Encore Espanol, EPIX, ESPNews, FOX Sports 2, FXM, HBO, HBO Latino, ION Television, Lifetime Movie Network, Logo TV, MLB Network, National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, Palladia, Pivot, SHOWTIME, Smithsonian Channel, Starz, TNT and VH1, airing on Sept. 5 (8/7c).
