It’s all well and good for their to be an uproar because this involves celebrities but nothing gets done about the countless men and women exposed on ex revenge sites..

The memes certainly are putting a slightly positive spin on an otherwise macabre happening. The problem with this is that the whole thing could have (or can still) e.g. lead to a suicide, e.g. if a person’s infidelity was exposed via the publication of such evidence. However, I would add another positive spin in the sense that I hope that finally people begin to realize that their “smart” phones are public places, not privacy! Every phone (and most computers) are connected to a world-wide communication infrastructure and I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. Many more hacks go undetected because the perpetrators wish to stay connected with their sources of information, e.g. for later blackmailing or identity theft purposes. NOTHING, mark my words, that you leave on a phone is ever safe from your neighbor’s prying eyes, and be they in Nigeria or Antarctica!

The truth of the matter is that the blame can’t solely rest on just one particular party. It’d be negligent in a way to not look at all the possible reasons as to why this occurred, and the facts. One can easily argue that the alleged hackers who either obtained these pictures/videos illegally, or the ‘collectors’ who distributed said files are to blame. One can also easily argue that maybe these high profile celebrities should’ve taken more precaution with such sensitive said files. Maybe this wasn’t merely a senseless hack/distribution, due to the fact that it was believed at first to have been caused by the hacking of iCloud accounts, when some of the celebrities affected admitted to using android, thus resulting to the drop in Apple’s stock? There’s no denying the fact however that what happened was unfortunate, and at the very least an invasion of privacy that no person should have to endure. As we all should not have to worry about such a thing, but the truth is that’s the day and age we live in sadly. I also don’t necessarily agree with the notion that, “if you don’t want nudes getting out there, don’t take them.” That’s a bit unfair when you understand the way we’ve been cultivated over the years with the over sexualization of the human body, especially that of women. Who’s to blame? No one but ourselves. If we don’t have respect for such a beautiful thing like a person and their body in a way that our first inclination isn’t lusting over them esp. in the nude, then we’ll never reach a state of true understanding that I feel we so desperately need. A person’s body is a special thing that shouldn’t be treated with such disregard. We shouldn’t be so quick to look at it in a way to merely satisfy our selfish desires. Because that gets no one anywhere, and actually detracts the progress we’ve made as a species.

I looked at most of the images that were leaked (except for the people whose names I didn’t even recognize lol) and I don’t feel like I “violated” anyone. They’re just normal women with normal bodies and normal sexuality. Big whoop. They have nothing to be ashamed of. Hell, in some cases (ahem..KateUptonIsAGiantWhoreAnyway) I don’t know why they’d even bother pretending that they’re upset about it. Oh. And I’m a girl. So the whole “gross internet men violating these women boohoo” theory doesn’t apply to me. I just wanted to see their boobs. So sue me. W/E

This obviously means you’re sexist and hate women! Sarcasm of course, but I can guarantee you most feminists actually feel this way. :p

First let me state that I do not in any way shape or form condone people hacking into anyone’s phone, computer, tablet, etc., and stealing private photos. It is stealing and the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. 2 things I want to say though….

1. You’re a celebrity…people out there will screw with you for no other reason than the fact that you are famous and they are not. That makes you a target and as a target you need to be smart and protect yourself. That being said if you’re taking nudes WHY UPLOAD THEM ONLINE?!? Totally unnecessary, take your pic(s) and send them directly to whom they’re intended. That goes for ANYONE out there who does that. If you’re a celebrity you’re a target so maybe if you’re going to do stuff like that you should be SMARTER AND PROTECT YOURSELF! You’re taking private photos for someone so take them and send them to that person. Why upload them to something like iCloud? What is it…they’re NOT private and you uploaded them on there so you can share them but are now pissed that everyone got to see them and not the people you intended? Doubtful. Disabling the option which automatically uploads your pics to an online storage site is not that hard to do. Perhaps take some time away from taking the nude selfies and READ THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH YOUR PHONE!

2. Not that I take any pleasure in what these people are going through but it IS a nice wake up call to celebrities out there that YOU ARE REAL PEOPLE TOO JUST LIKE ALL OF US. Meaning for example like when you turn on the news and see someone like Justin Beiber getting arrested again, and again, AND again or someone like Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton getting away with things that if “us normal” people would do would land us in jail, celebrities get off with little to no punishment or repercussions. And before people start with examples of the celebrities that DO get punished might I remind you to look at how many times they were in trouble before hand and got off and when they were punished…compare their punishment to that of your Average Joe. Celebrities got hacked, the same way regular people do. The difference is authorities will find the hacker and those who were wronged will get a large cash settlement after they file a lawsuit against the hacker and website….more than anything the Average Joe would get. Celebrities want justice…they are entitled to it and should have it. The justice system “should” also use this as a wake up call and strive for equality. So what if you’re famous, have a huge bank account, are a huge star, have a lot of movies, albums, etc.,..if you break the law you should pay. Your status in society should have no bearing or impact on how severely you are punished, your criminal record and severity of the crime should determine that. Pick up a paper or watch the news and you will hear about African Americans, homosexuals, women, immigrants, etc., all wanting equality. Why is equality restricted to skin color, sex or sexual preference and not applied to economic status? Your average African American gets treated unfairly when compared to your average Caucasian male, that is a fact. Wesley Snipes did do prison time for tax evasion BUT nothing compared to what a typical Average Joe African American would get. Snipes being a star had nothing to do with reduced fines and sentencing?

This recent invasion of privacy is just that…the most recent. This has happened before and will happen again. It’s some what hard to feel sorry for them when they don’t learn from other peoples mistakes. You don’t see Scarlett Johansson or Blake Lively added to the recent list with more stolen photos. You know why? THEY LEARNED FROM THEIR MISTAKES! It’s sad when you see people like Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice on the list. Yes while they first said the stolen photos were fake, Justice is now seeking legal action. Why? Maybe because when people out there take the time to show OTHER non-nude pics and compare them to the nudes you see the same clothes, background images, etc., and can tell that the photos ARE real and they are trying to save face because with Grande and Justice the ONLY reason they even became famous was though children’s television programming. Sure they are legal age and not the teens they portray BUT they are still role models for children and now their image is tainted. Many people didn’t like Mark Wahlberg hosting the Kids Choice Awards because of his roles in movies like Ted. The same people aren’t protesting re-runs of Zoey 101 when a 16 year old Jamie Spears was pregnant with her first child which was what led to the show being canceled. Sorry but I feel that if you’re going to be a star on Disney or Nickelodeon the companies should take some responsibility and have a no nudity clause. Break it and you’re done…no more new shows, no more re-runs, you’re done. The original release contained photos of more than 100 celebrities. What if it was the same hacker(s) BUT they hacked into the accounts of 1000 Average Joe’s? Does anyone think that this groundbreaking news would be plastered all over the news and social media getting the same attention? Does anyone think the FBI would even be involved? Does anyone think that when the culprit(s) are caught those who were wronged will be seeing any wheres CLOSE to the same cash settlement the celebrities in question will be getting? If you answered anything but “no” those questions then you seriously have blinders on and tunnel vision.
