The Judges Favorite Acts Of The Night
New York City based musician, Jonah Smith showed off his incredible range by taking on One Republic‘s summer hit, “Love Runs Out.” Mel B, 39, and Heidi Klum, 41, greeted him with a standing ovation. The former Spice Girl praised the artist saying,”that’s how you open up a show!” Howie also loved the performance and praised the raspy quality in his voice.
18-year-old singer, Jaycob Curlee brought a different vibe to the stage with a classic and intimate take on Elton John‘s, “Your Song.” Howard Stern, 60, thought that he rose to the occasion, and praised his song choice, “this was your best performance yet.” Heidi agreed and said, “you are truly blessed with a great voice,” but would like to see him break out of his shell.
Magician Mat Franco took the stage with the promise of a totally new, never before seen trick. Howard, Heidi, and Howie Mandel, 58, were all asked to choose cards at random. Mat then dropped Mel’s phone in her water, as she freaked out they realized it was part of the act, before making the phone disappear in smoke. She then had Heidi call her phone which was all the way in the back. He then cut open a seat in the audience and produced her phone! Amazing! There was no denying that all of the judges loved the performance and really want to see Mat move forward to the top 12!
Acroarmy was back to prove themselves after narrowly missing being eliminated during the last round! The seventeen young artists flew to new heights, and even used one girl as a human jump rope, causing all of the judges and the audience to get on their feet. Mel “I don’t even think I have the words to describe what I just saw! That was incredible, off the chain.”
Howard brought back comedian Wendy Liebman to come back and grace the stage again as his wildcard pick. Howie and Howard both gave the funny lady a standing ovation. Howard said, ” you can’t do better than this, you got to vote for Wendy, she deserves to be in this competition.”
Dancing duo, Blue Journey combined their incredible dance with animation to really tell a story. Heidi said, “it was surreal, it was beautiful. I have to say, definitely one of my favorite acts of the night.”Mel agreed saying, ” you have to stay in this competition, you really do, so unique.”
Cello playing brothers, Emil & Dariel once again proved that they have what it takes to be rock stars! Mel said, “you come out here and you smash it. It sounds amazing!” Howie agreed saying, “the truth is, you guys were perfect!” At only 14 and 16 their act is just amazing, but Howard would like to have a singer come and accompany them if they make it through to the next round.
Local magician, Smoothini, was up and the judges had asked him to go bigger with his tricks. Using simple props like a shoelace and Howie’s ring, he definitely worked the crowd and amazed the judges. Heidi said, ” I love when you do some close up magic. I love it, it’s awesome! You really earned your name today.”
Powerhouse vocalist, Quintavious Johnson, looked like a true star when he entered the stage in a gold suit! With his rendition of Etta James classic, “I’d Rather Go Blind” the teen showed that he truly has some amazing pipes! All four judges gave a standing ovation. Heidi said, “your name is as unique as your talent.” Mel agreed saying, ” you’ve just got it,” while Howie said, ” you should win this thing!”
The Judges Least Favorite Acts
Adult and children salsa dance troop, Baila Conmigo took the stage by storm performing in bright yellow and hot pink outfits! While it was an amazing performance Howie thought that the kids were the stronger performers and thought that if the adults were not there, they would without a doubt move forward. Giving a different opinion, Heidi couldn’t get the smile off her face and loved, “the little happy feet running across the stage.”
Kelli Glover tackled one of the biggest songs ever, Beyoncé‘s mega hit, “Love On Top.” The singer had a lot to prove after battling her nerves in the quarter finals. While it was a solid performance, the song is super difficult with a ton of key changes, and it seemed like she bit off more than she could chew in just 90 seconds. Howard was a bit harsh saying, “sometimes I think cruise ship, there is something missing.” Mel agreed and said, ” tonight you lost it. You didn’t give it, but you can sing your little tush off!”
Acrobat Christian Stoinev and his adorable chihuahua, Scooby once again graced the stage and showed off their incredible balancing ability. Mel B said, “I love Scooby, I love you, but you needed to do a little bit more.” Howard said, “you are a frontrunner, I think you got a little too sure of yourself. You have somehow become a dog act.”
