Now that she has revealed her second pregnancy to the world, Catelynn Lowell is opening up about the crippling depression that almost took her life — and how she is worried it may leave her with postpartum after her daughter is born.
Catelynn Lowell, 22, is thrilled to be expecting a second child with her fiance, Tyler Baltierra, also 22. As she prepares to welcome a baby girl five years after giving her first up for adoption, the expectant mom is sharing the intimate and terrifying details of her struggle with anxiety and depression. How will it affect her — if at all — once she gives birth?
Catelynn Lowell Concerned About Postpartum After Experiencing Depression
It takes a lot of courage to open up your heart and mind to the public — especially when your life is on display in front of camera crews for reality television.
Now, shortly after announcing her second pregnancy as well as a return season of Teen Mom, Catelynn has decided to reveal her difficult struggle with depression after giving up her first daughter, Carly, now 5, for adoption when she was just 16 years old. The mom-to-be is especially concerned about how her depression may result in postpartum after she gives birth to her baby girl in just a few months.
“Postpartum is something I worry about,” she told InTouch in an exclusive interview inside their Sept. 8 issue. “My depression and anxiety were so severe, I didn’t want to live another day.”
It gets even worse than that. Apparently, Catelynn’s anxiety attacks kept her up at night — which is what sparked her depression.
“I started having severe panic and anxiety attacks in the middle of the night, which led me into a deep depression. I couldn’t stop crying. I felt I’d be better off dead. I needed help.”
Thankfully, Catelynn found the help that she needed thanks to her fiance, Tyler. Now, she’s taking medication for depression and anxiety regularly, which she intends to keep doing — even if it means she’ll be doing so for the rest of her life.
Kudos to Catelynn not just for getting the help she needed, but for having the strength to open about her struggle. Hopefully it will inspire others to seek help as well.
Tyler: How He Helped Catelynn During Her Deep Depression
There is one person, and one person only, that Catelynn claims saved her life when she hit rock bottom: her fiance, Tyler.
The couple have been together for over 9 years, and they have been through it all — pregnancy, giving up a baby, and later planning and postponing a wedding — so it is no surprise that they are each others rocks.
“Tyler has battled depression and knows what it looks like, so he made my first appointment,” Catelynn explained. Later, she was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, and was instructed to see a therapist regularly.
Thankfully, Tyler stepping in to save Catelynn’s life was what made her realize that they really were going to be there for each other through “sickness and in health.” So sweet. Catelynn is one lucky lady.
