Jesse Helt, who was once homeless, became famous overnight when he attended the VMAs with Miley Cyrus on Aug. 24. Jesse’s father has now spoken out in a new interview and confessed he ‘didn’t know’ his son was homeless.
Jesse Helt, 22, is having a major moment in the spotlight — both good and bad — after accepting an award for Miley Cyrus, 21, at the VMAs. Jesse spoke at the show about homeless youth, but his own father says he had NO idea that his son had ever lived in a homeless shelter.
Jesse Helt’s Dad: Father Of Miley Cyrus’ VMA Date On His Homeless Son
Jesse’s father, Dennis Helt, spoke candidly to Daily Mail about his son.
“We kept in touch since he left for LA but I haven’t spoken to him this year. I thought he was still chasing his dream, I didn’t know he was homeless, he didn’t share that information with me,” Dennis told Daily Mail. “If I’d known then maybe I could have helped him. It’s heart-breaking knowing he was going through that when he’s got a family to fall back on.” Dennis also said he’d sent Jesse money a “couple” times since his son moved to Los Angeles, and also said he’d offered to pay for a plane ticket to fly Jesse home if he ever wanted to visit.
Dennis admits he had no idea about his son’s legal troubles. A new report claims that Jesse has a warrant out for his arrest in his hometown of Salem, Oregon, for violating his probation multiple times.
“That’s all new to me. He was 19 when he left, but I don’t know what he was getting up to,” Dennis explained. Dennis also revealed that Jesse is the youngest of five children.
