Prince fans, it’s happening! After a 5-year hiatus, the killer singer-songwriter is releasing not one, but TWO brand new albums to make up for his absence from the music scene. And in true Prince style, it looks like both records will be jam-packed with hit after danceable hit.
From the perfectly rhythmic smooch sounds in “Kiss” to the head banging beats of “Purple Rain,” Prince has always known how to create memorable music, and we have a feeling his two new albums will be no exception. We’re thrilled the seven-time Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will officially be back with two discs: Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age, which are both slated for release on Sep. 30. Who’s ready to dance?
Prince To Release 2 New Albums On Sep. 30
Art Official Age, his solo LP, is “classic Prince” music, according to Rolling Stone. This makes sense as the record was composed, arranged, produced and performed by the 56-year-old icon and is reportedly made up of a swinging combination of soul, funk and R&B.
Contrarily, Plectrumelectrum, is Prince’s collaboration with female group, 3rdEyeGirl, which we’ve been hearing about for a while now. Differing from Art Official Age, Rolling Stone calls this record a “classic band album” and quotes Prince as saying, “No one can play like this band. People are going to try, but they won’t be able to.”
For a seasoned pro to be setting the standards so high, this album must be golden!
Lucky for Prince fans everywhere, the dancing king has given us some tracks to preview online already.
The video for “Breakfast Can Wait” off Art Official Age is directed by Danielle Curiel. The song is smooth and catchy and the video is just kinky enough to let us know it’s Prince, with plenty of food/sex metaphors happening right in front of our eyes. Other tracks slated for this album include “Clouds”, “The Gold Standard” and a collab with Rita Ora.
As for Plectrumelectrum, expect favorites to be the original version of “Funknroll” and a hard-rock guitar piece entitled “Pretzelbodylogic.”
September 30th can’t come soon enough!
Do you agree, HollywoodLifers? Are you pumped for Prince’s new albums? Let us know!
