Fans were moved when Miley asked her VMAs date, a homeless man named Jesse Helt, to accept the Video of the Year Award on her behalf on Aug. 24. But it seems that there’s more to Jesse than meets the eye — in fact, there’s reportedly a warrant out for his arrest right now!
Miley Cyrus’, 21, generously paid for her friend and VMAs date‘s plane ticket home to Salem, Oregon, where he will be reunited with his mother for the first time in three years. But there could be one major thing standing in the way of his happiness. Jesse Helt, 22, is on the run from police in his hometown of Salem after violating his probation, according to a shocking new report.
Jesse Helt’s Arrest Warrant: Miley Cyrus’ Homeless VMA Date Wanted By Police
An Oregon judge issued a warrant for Jesse’s arrest in 2011, after he broke his probation multiple times, the UK’s Daily Mail reports. This means that Jesse could be arrested as soon as he arrives back in Oregon!
The troubled 22 year old was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal mischief in the third degree and criminal trespass in the 1st degree in October, 2010 after he allegedly broke into an apartment where he claimed a man had sold him “bad marijuana.” The burglary charge was later dismissed.
On Nov. 23, 2010, Jesse was sentenced to 30 days in county jail, placed on supervised probation for one year, fined $572 and ordered to pay restitution, the Daily Mail reports. Jesse was later booked on probation violations on July 24, 2011 and Aug. 22, 2011, according to mug shots obtained by MailOnline.
“He still has an outstanding warrant,” Jon Troike, a local judicial services specialist, told The Sun. “If he’s contacted by the police in Oregon he would be arrested.”
Miley Cyrus’ Homeless VMAs Date Jesse Helt: ‘I Miss My Mom’
Jesse will face that moment of truth soon. He hopped a flight from Los Angeles to Oregon on Aug. 25, courtesy of his friend Miley. Jesse told a MailOnline reporter on that flight that he was “glad” to be returning home. “I miss my mom, I haven’t seen her in three years,” he added. “I’ve been suffering since I was the age of 13, but I’m glad to be back home.”
Jesse’s emotional VMAs speech about homeless youths and runaways brought the audience to tears, and gave him an opportunity to turn his life around. We hope that Jesse will be able to overcome his past troubles and embrace his bright future — we know Miley would want that for him too.
