The hunt for James Foley’s jihadist executioner heats up as new clues point toward the identity of the ISIS member who savagely beheaded the American journalist and then uploaded the video to YouTube.
America was shocked when militant group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) beheaded American journalist James Foley and then uploaded the video to YouTube, for all the world to see. The search for “John The Jailer,” or “Jihadi John,” is heating up now that a UK doctor — and suspected terrorist — may actually hold the key to the executioner’s identity.
James Foley’s Executioner: New Clues On The Hunt For ‘Jihadi John’
Dr. Shajul Islam, 28, was a doctor for the National Health Service in the UK who was accused of abducting foreign nationals in 2012, reports The Telegraph. He is currently suspended from practicing medicine, and he maintains that he was in Syria only to provide medical care to civil war victims.
While Shajul was let off due to insubstantial evidence, his brother, Razul, 21, is believed to have left Britain for Syria last year and is now allegedly fighting for ISIS.
John & Diane Foley: James Foley ‘Was A Courageous, Fearless Journalist’
Razul is on a list of many whose voice and mannerisms are being compared to the man in the video, according to The Telegraph. Furthermore, Shajul and another man, named Jubayer Chowdhury, 24, are the only British jihadists accused of kidnapping foreign nationals in Syria. Therefore, it stands to reason that they may hold the key to the identity of John The Jailer.
Other suspects include Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, 23, a rapper who went to Syria last year and tweeted a picture of himself holding up a severed head, says The Telegraph, as well as a former gang member named Aine Davis, 30, who converted to Islam and left his home in West London for Syria.
At a press conference on Aug. 20, James’ parents, John and Diane Foley, told reporters: “We’re very proud of Jim. He was a courageous, fearless journalist. A very compassionate American.”
This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts go out to James’ family and friends during this difficult time and we hope that his executioner will swiftly be brought to justice.
