The new Doctor is in! ‘Doctor Who’ returns on August 23 and we’ve got your sneak peek to the season premiere. Click to WATCH, but beware: dinosaurs ahead! (Yes, really.)
‘Doctor Who’ Premiere: Get To Know The New Doctor
Peter Capaldi, 56, made headlines when he was cast as Matt Smith’s replacement in Doctor Who, and now the time has finally come for him to step into the limelight. Er, TARDIS.
“We wanted a Doctor who felt unpredictable to make him dangerous,” co-executive producer Brian Minchin told TV Guide Magazine of casting the 12th Doctor.
The British actor is significantly older than his predecessor and also the doc before, David Tennant, which was a deliberate choice by the producers to shine light on the character’s “weariness.”
Age isn’t the only stark difference this time around. Peter will be sporting a different look than viewers are used to seeing. “I kept going back to simplifying things and going darker until eventually it had the atmosphere that made me feel like the Doctor,” the British actor told the magazine, admitting that he tried on tons of eccentric garb: velvet jackets, scarves, and even a big floppy hat!
His signature outfit also includes a gold ring, which has deeper meaning than your average bling.”If you travel in time and space, most of the people you know and love will eventually be gone. But you’ll also be able to go and find them again,” Peter explains to TV Guide Magazine of the accessory, which represents those the Doctor has lost in his life.
