A preliminary private autopsy revealed that Michael Brown, a black teen, was shot at least six times, including twice in the head, by Darren Wilson, a white officer in Missouri. These shocking results have only intensified the protests by Ferguson residents who feel the shooting was racially motivated.
Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black teenager who was killed by Darren Wilson, a 28-year-old white officer in Missouri, on Aug. 9 was shot at least six times, including twice in the head, a preliminary private autopsy has found. The final shot entered the top of Michael’s skull, according to the autopsy report, suggesting that his head was bent forward when he suffered the fatal injury. This news emerged as Missouri’s governor, Jay Nixon, ordered the state National Guard to enter Ferguson as protests heated up.
Michael Brown’s Autopsy — Teenager Shot At Least 6 Times By Officer
The autopsy was conducted by Dr. Michael Baden, a former New York City chief medical examiner, The New York Times revealed.
Dr. Baden said the bullet which entered Michael’s skull was likely the last to enter his body.
Not a lot is known about the encounter between Michael and Darren, except that the officer was injured and Michael was shot. However, witnesses say the teenager had his hands in the air as Darren fired multiple times, according to the newspaper.
Dr. Braden also revealed that Michael was shot four times in the right arm and all the bullets were fired into his front. There was no gunpowder on Michael’s body, which suggests that the bullets did not come from close range.
Another horrific finding shows that somes bullets entered and exited Michael’s body multiple times. One bullet shattered his right eye, went through his face, left through his jaw and re-entered his collarbone, the Huffington Post writes.
Michael would not have survived — due to the two shots in the head — even if he had been taken to a hospital immediately, Dr. Baden claims.
Michael’s death has spurred a week of violent protests in Ferguson because residents feel the shooting was racially motivated.
Missouri’s Governor Orders The State National Guard To Help Stop Protests
Governor Jay Nixon said the National Guard, whom he ordered to enter Ferguson, would help “in restoring peace and order,” Daily Mail reports.
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in response to protesters, who are responsible for gunfire, vandalism, looting and hurling Molotov cocktails.
“These violent acts are a disservice to the family of Michael Brown and his memory and to the people of this community who yearn for justice to be served and to feel safe in their own homes,” the Governor said in a statement.
We hope the town of Ferguson and everyone affected by this tragedy can begin to heal and find peace. Our thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected.
