Emotions ran high on ‘Project Runway’ when the designers were asked to make high fashion women’s wear out of the material from old men’s suits! Some designers really nailed this challenge, while others sent looks down the runway that the judges flat out hated. Click below to find out who was the winner!
It’s episode four of Project Runway, and the stakes keep getting higher. We knew it was going to be crazy episode when the designers discovered their challenge at a Red Robin restaurant!
‘Project Runway’ Recap — Season 13, Episode 4
The Aug. 14 episode began with the designers arriving at the Red Robin restaurant. Their challenge was to create a new take on something classic — in the same way that Red Robin transforms hamburgers! Next, 13 men dressed in suits filed in to serve as inspiration for their creations, and also the fabric!
Tim Gunn challenged the designers to create a high fashion look out of the jacket and pants of the men’s outdated suits. Sandhya, being the winner of the last challenge, was able to choose her suit first, and was even instructed to delegate the remaining suits to the rest of the designers!
Most of the designers absolutely hated the material they were given and Amanda even said that she was given her least favorite fabric of all! Sandhya said that she tried to pick suits that she believed the other contestants would chose for themselves, but Hernan felt that he was personally sabotaged with an unattractive beige suit.
‘Project Runway’ Recap: The Runway
Bethany Mota served as guest judge for the anonymous runway show and Korina’s look was the first to go down the runway. She made a red and black sleeveless motorcycle jacket that she paired with a red pencil skirt.
Kristine also made a motorcycle jacket, but had a different take on hers with peekaboo sleeves and a very interesting pair of trousers.
Samantha went for an off-balanced dress suit look, while Char created a color blocked halter dress with a dramatic collar.
Mitchell’s design was extremely unique. He created a two-piece mini and halter that featured a plastic-like lining for a futuristic look.
Kini‘s look was our personal favorite! He was the only designer who was actually excited to use his pin striped suit, and he turned it into an elegantly tailored cut out dress with strong shoulders and a layered skirt.
‘Project Runway’ Recap: The Results
Kristine, Hernan and Sean ended up in the bottom 3. The judges were blunt about Sean’s look and they told him that his attempt to have a “deconstructed” look of a suit was unsuccessful and not one of the judges liked it.
The judges found Kristine’s look to be “blah,” and her use of organza with velour was a contrast that did NOT work.
Hernan‘s look wasn’t finished until seconds before the runway and the judges didn’t like his use of vinyl in the lining of the dress or his high-low cut anyway. Nina Garcia said the large V on the front of his dress made his model look like “she’s the vagina superhero.” Wow, Nina! That’s harsh!
In the end, it was Hernan who was sent home.
The top two came down to Kini and Amanda, with Amanda winning for her bohemian-fringed look. She will have immunity for next week.
That episode was crazy! Who do you think should have won? Were you sad Hernan was sent home? Let us know, HollywoodLifers!
