‘How To Build A Better Boy’: Kelli Berglund Gets A Virtual Boyfriend

The Disney Channel Original Movie explores two besties in high school who create a virtual boyfriend. The girls, played by Lab Rats‘ Kelli Berglund and A.N.T. Farm‘s China Anne McClain, are tech geniuses and by mistake, create a super cute robot!

The boy toy ends up being the perfect fit for Mae Hartley (Kelli) — well, not quite.

“My character gets herself in a little bit of a sticky situation between her best friend and her boyfriend,” Kelli reveals, calling the issue a “conflict triangle.”

The two girls are best friends, but have their differences. “I like to consider [Mae] kind of like a romantic. She’s a dreamer. She dreams about having a perfect life and a perfect boyfriend,” Kelli explains. “Gabby [China] stays on the path.”

Despite the onscreen trouble, Kelli thinks that the boy — in real-life — is the perfect pick! The super cute robot, Albert Banks, is played by actor Marshall Williams. “We create this boy and I think they pick the perfect boy for this role,” Kelli admits, calling him the sweetest boy she’s ever met in her life and super handsome!

So can we expect a smooch between the two? “There is an onscreen almost-kiss,” Kelli teases!

Kelli Berglund Talks About Real-Life Boys

In the movie, it sounds like Kelli has her hands full, but off screen, she knows exactly what she would want in a boyfriend! (She’s single, guys!)

Kelli looks for guys who can be loyal, trustworthy, caring, loving and have a sense of humor. “I have to be with someone’s who funny.”

If she could pick an A-lister, it would be a toss up between Liam Hemsworth, Harry Styles, Dave Franco and Zac Efron. Good choices, Kelli!

How To Build A Better Boy premieres on Friday, August 15 (8/7c) on the Disney Channel.
