Prior to his alleged attack on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack on August 8, War Machine did not exactly have a sterling reputation. In Nov. 2013, he made a completely insensitive rape ‘joke’ on Twitter — read on to find out what he said.

Adult film actress Christy Mack, 23, and MMA fighter War Machine, 32, went public with their romance in June 2013. Not long after, War Machine (born Jon Koppenhaver) made an incredibly insensitive rape “joke” on Twitter — not only was it not funny, it did not seem as if he was joking at all. In fact, it revealed his deep seated misogyny which may have been a factor in the vicious beating on August 8 which Christy alleges was at War Machine’s hands. Read on to find out what he said, and Christy’s response to the incident at the time.

War Machine’s Rape Joke: History Of Misogyny Before Alleged Christy Mack Attack

“Just raped [Christy Mack] She tried to make me wait until “after errands” As if! [sic],” War Machine said in August 2013, reported IBTimes at the time. The tweet has since been deleted.

War Machine’s tweet was, of course, met with outrage, to which he responded: “Real men rape. (Their GF’s and wives, not strangers, don’t get your panties in a bunch.)”

The MMA fighter continued to try to clarify his statements, with no level of success (typos all his, removal of expletives all ours; tweets thanks to IBTimes):

“Apparently you idiots didn’t read my tweet prior to the one y’all are crying about, it puts it in the right context. Sensitive a**b******. Context is the word…y’all motherf****** just love to take what I say out of CONTEXT and then attempt to demonize me with it.”

He also joked about killing Christy during an interview from July 2013.

War Machine’s Online Shop Further Reveals Misogynistic Attitude

War Machine is a known misogynist, and it’s no surprise that he seems to think that there’s no such thing as rape within a relationship. His website, Alpha Male Sh**, sells a number of items which hint to his belief that men are superior to women, such as a women’s long-sleeved shirt with “I [heart] That Alpha Male Sh**” written on. Another winner is a “motivational” tank top for women which has “Bikini Season Is Coming” written on. (The motivational tank top for men says: “Don’t Be A P*ssy”.)

Pressure was clearly put on War Machine after his statements by Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney; War Machine finally tweeted the following apology:

“I tweeted something earlier that was stupid, insensitive and wrong. Rape is never something to joke about ever. I sincerely apologize.”

Worth noting is that War Machine’s now former employer, Bellator, is standing by Christy. “We have a zero tolerance policy here at Bellator when it relates to any form of domestic violence,” Bellator president Scott Coker told TMZ. “After learning of this latest incident involving (Jon Koppenhaver) War Machine, Bellator is releasing him from his promotional contract with the organization.”

Here’s what Christy had to say at the time about the scandal:

“To be clear, [War Machine] says stupid things at times; we all know this. He did not rape me, nor would he rape any woman (or man)”

War Machine Has Yet To Be Charged; However, His Side Of The Story Is A Little Suspect

While War Machine has yet to be charged with beating Christy Mack to the point that she’ll need $100,000 in reconstructive surgery, his history and his comments following the beating do not endear him to the public at large. His side of the story, which he wrote in a series of tweets on August 10, not only places him at Christy’s house on the evening of the incident, but also seems incredibly suspect.

Here’s what he wrote (typos his, pasted together for clarity):

“I’m not a bad guy, I went to surprise my gf, help her set up her show and to give her an engagement ring and ended up fighting for my life.

“The cops will never give me fair play, never believe me. Still deciding what to do but at the end of the day it’s all just heart breaking. I only wish that man hadn’t been there and that Christy & I would behappily engaged.I don’t know y I’m so cursed.One day truth will come out.”

And here’s what he tweeted at Christy:

“love you and hope you’re okay. I came him early to surprise you and help you set up for your convention. I can’t believe what I found and can’t believe what happened. All I wanted was to surprise you and help and do something nice…now this.. I’m so heart broken…in all ways.

“I will always love you. I just wanted to see your face when I surprised you with the ring …this is a nightmare. You’re in my thoughts.”

Christy Mack Suffered 18 Broken Bones, Allegedly At The Hands Of War Machine, And Cannot Walk On Her Own

Considering that he and Christy broke up in May, he basically confirmed that he has a hard time listening to the word “no,” since showing up to her home with an engagement ring — if that was indeed his reason for showing up — is a pretty unwelcome advance from an ex.

In her Twitter statement on August 11, Christy revealed that she suffered 18 broken bones, a ruptured liver, a fractured rib, and that her leg was hurt so badly that she can’t move on her own. She also wrote that she believed she was going to die.

War Machine has yet to be found, but Dog The Bounty Hunter is on the case. We can only hope Christy Mack will soon receive justice and that she will make a full recovery from this violent incident.
