Great new for the Biebs! The 20-year-old is avoiding time in the slammer, but he’s being ordered to take an anger management course and make a $50,000 charitable donation. Do YOU think that’s a fair punishment?
Justin Bieber, 20, just got a lucky break. The singer, who was arrested in January on charges of driving under the influence, driving with an expired license and resisting arrest without violence, has avoided jail time. Keep reading for all the details of his plea deal!
Justin Bieber Strikes Plea Deal
Instead of serving time, Justin must make a $50,000 charitable donation, pay a $500 court fine and take part in a private 12-hour anger management course, ABC News reports. He’ll also appear in a series of videos about the consequences of drunk driving.
Justin will reportedly plead guilty to resisting arrest without violence. The DUI charge was reduced to “careless driving,” to which Justin is pleading guilty to as well. His charge of driving without a valid license was dropped when the singer later proved he had one.
“The strengths and weaknesses of the case motivated everyone to seek this appropriate resolution. The ultimate purpose of the Miami Beach Police Department’s initial traffic stop was to end some rash, juvenile-type conduct before a tragedy occurred,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said during the sentencing. “The intervention and counseling parts of the plea should provide a pathway toward adult responsibility.”
Justin did not attend the hearing.
We’re so glad for Justin, but we certainly hope he learns his lesson. This isn’t the first time that he barely avoided jail time.
Justin Bieber Avoids Jail Time After Run-Ins With The Law
In July, Justin paid $80,000 in damages after pleading no contest in a misdemeanor vandalism after egging his neighbor’s home. He also has two ongoing lawsuits against him — one for allegedly assaulting a limo driver in Toronto and one for allegedly assaulting a photographer in Miami.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you happy that Justin struck a plea deal? Do you think he should have gotten jail time? Vote in our poll!
