Serena Williams Loses To Sister Venus Williams
Venus is heading to the women’s singles Rogers Cup final! Venus beat her #1 ranked sister Serena 6-7 (2), 6-2 and 6-3 on Aug. 9. This is the first time Venus has beat Serena in over five years to go on to the final round.
Serena was the defending champion of the Rogers Cup, but Venus wasn’t going to let that trouble her. Venus was confident and took a 3-1 lead up until Serena tied the game 3-3, USA Today reports.
Venus dropped her serve only once and served that the match at 5-3 in the third set, the outlet said.
During the game, Venus had six aces and two doubles-faults. Serena had 19 aces and nine double-faults.
“I definitely don’t like playing her,” Serena said about Venus, according to ESPN. “I think I’ve lost to her more than anyone on the tour, so it’s definitely not a fun match.”
“She’s tough. She has a great serve. She runs every ball down. She has a great backhand. She hits winners off the forehand. She does everything well so it’s not an ideal matchup for anyone, to be honest.”
Venus will player either Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, 25, or Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova, 26, in the final on Aug. 10.
