Tim Burton Teases First Photo Of ‘Big Eyes’
The director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice is about to make a big statement on the silver screen. The first photo of his new film, Big Eyes, was unveiled via USA Today.
Amy Adams, 39, portrays artist Margaret Keane, who is best known for painting oil portraits of larger than life, doe-eyed women and children.
In the photo, Amy flaunts a bright, blond wig and is painting one of her signature pieces.
The film chronicles the life of Margaret and her husband, Walter Keane, as they juggled fame and fortune from her work, USA Today wrote. Walter claimed credit for Margaret’s work, which led to their divorce in 1965.
Their battle over the paintings finally came to a head in 1986 when the former couple had a “paint-off” in court where they had to create a painting to see who was the true artist. Being the real painter of the pieces, Margaret was awarded $4 million in damages.
Before filming, Amy spent time with Margaret to help prepare for the real-life character. “The handling of the brush and paint, the way that Margaret creates the eyes, that is something I studied at great length,” Amy told USA Today. “But I never mastered it like Margaret has.”
The film stars Christoph Waltz, 57, as Walter, Krysten Ritter, 32, Jason Schwartzman, 34, and Danny Huston, 52.
Big Eyes will hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2014.
