How very sad. Australian singer-songwriter Michael Johns, who placed eighth during American Idol’s seventh season, has reportedly passed away from a blood clot in his ankle.

Michael passed away on August 1 from a blood clot in his ankle, according to TMZ. The singer had reportedly hurt his ankle and went to the doctor for the unusual bruising and swelling. He was sent home after doctors couldn’t find anything seriously wrong. He died the next day at a friends apartment.
Michael’s Twitter fan page administrator confirmed the news on August 2 with two tweets that read:
“It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns. No other details will b avail at this time.Please respect the privacy of Mike’s family and friends as we know u will.Members and admin of
@mjohnsonline pass on their prayers.”
FOX released a statement on Aug. 2 about the devastating news: ”Michael Johns was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He was a part of our American Idol family and he will be truly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Michael’s family also released a statement about his sudden death.
“Our family is devastated by the passing of our beloved Michael, a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from all corners of the globe. Please keep Michael in your thoughts and respect our need to grieve privately in this difficult time.”
After he was cut from American Idol during the show’s 2008 season, Michael recorded and released an album called Hold Back My Heart in 2009. He also released a three-song EP titled Love and Sex in 2012. Michael married his wife, Stacey Vuduris, in 2007.
Most recently, Michael released a single titled “Day Breaks Sun” in February of this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
