She is finally a free woman! Meriam Yahya Ibrahim is on her way home to start a brand-new life with her two children and her husband in America. Congrats, Meriam!
Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, 27, is headed home. The doctor and mother of two has departed Rome, Italy with her entire family — newborn daughter Maya, son Martin, 3, and husband Daniel Wani — for a new life in America. This is wonderful news for her and her family, as Meriam just barely escaped death row in Sudan for being a defiant Christian.
Meriam Yahya Ibrahim Headed For America After Being Freed From Sudan’s Death Row
More happy news for Meriam and her family: they are going home.
On July 31 in Rome, Italy, Meriam was pictured at the airport with her family headed for a flight back to America, reports the Daily Mail.
Their destination? Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Meriam’s husband, Daniel, is an American citizen who resides in New Hampshire, which is where the family is headed once they touchdown in the United States.
Meriam first tasted freedom when the Italian government sent a charter plane to Sudan to pick her and her family up on July 24.
On June 23 Meriam’s lawyers won an appeal against the Sudanese government in regards to her charges of apostasy and adultery, which resulted in her and her children’s release from the tiny prison cell they had been living in for months.
The following day, June 24, Meriam and her family were arrested again inside of the Sudan airport for allegedly using falsified documents to flee the country. Thankfully, due to the international outrage and government intervention, Meriam and her family were freed once again — which is when they immediately escaped to Italy.
Meriam Opened Up About Death Sentence For The First Time While In Italy
After her once in a lifetime meeting with Pope Francis, who blessed her and her family after their near-death experience, Meriam finally revealed how she felt after being hunted by the Sudan government for her religion.
“Thanks to God we are all fine. I trusted God from the first instant. I knew that he would not abandon me,” Meriam explained during her first interview. She was so brave throughout this whole ordeal, and she is most definitely an inspiration to people fighting for their religious freedom everywhere.
