Chris Pratt Delivers Inspiring Speech To Kids: ‘Be Your Own Star-Lord’
Kudos to you, Chris!
On Monday, July 28, at a movie theater in New York City, the actor surprised an audience filled with children after they were treated to an advanced — and free! — screening of Guardians of the Galaxy.
“I just wanted to come by and say hello and just tell you that I think you’re all very awesome,” Chris said shortly after being introduced to the very excited audience.
During the speech, Chris opened up about his own struggle with success, and encouraged the children to work hard and always reach for the stars. Literally!
“Take it from a kid who grew up having no money, and struggling hard to get by. Just know, if you stick to your path and you believe in yourself and you be courageous enough to be yourself, you can grow up [and] you can be your own Star-Lord.”
For those of you who don’t know, Chris portrays the Marvel superhero Star-Lord and ultimately saves the galaxy in Guardians, which hits theaters on Friday, Aug. 1.
Not only did Chris deliver his speech, but he took a ton of pictures and passed high-fives out to as many kids as he could. Later, Chris could be seen posing for even more pictures in the halls of the movie theater. What an awesome guy!
Chris Wants To Embrace Being A Positive Role Model
Unless you’re a diehard Chris Pratt fan, you may not know that he was living in his car and working as a waiter in Maui, Hawaii when he got his big break.
The then 19-year-old somehow managed to convince actress/writer/director Rae Dawn Chong to cast him in her film, Cursed Part 3. The film never saw the light of day, but that was it — Chris soon moved to California to pursue his career in acting.
Even though he has been acting on Parks & Recreation for years, Guardians of the Galaxy is his first major role in a blockbuster film. Now, Chris is learning how to deal with being a household name.
“This is all pretty new to me, but I’m ready to sort of embrace it and embrace the idea that I could be a positive role model for these youngsters,” Chris told the NY Daily News during his surprise screening.
