Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga Album — Singers Team Up For New Jazz Record
Are you surprised that Tony and Gaga are joining forces for a new album of jazz standards? Don’t be! Lady Gaga may be a huge and often controversial pop star, but as her longtime friend Lady Starlight points out, the former Tisch School of the Arts student is also a multi-talented and classically-trained musician!
“I listened to the album: I was blown away, and I’ve known her for how long?” Lady Starlight tells People magazine. “People forget she’s first and foremost a musician. She’s so legit it’s not even funny. It’ll be nice to prove to people who don’t believe that she can sing or are critical.”
We for one can’t wait to hear this new side of Lady Gaga!
Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett’s ‘Fast’ Friendship
Lady Gaga and Tony are more than just collaborators — they’re also good pals!
“We were fast friends – friends ever since [our first meeting at the Robin Hood Foundation benefit gala in New York City in 2011],” Gaga told People on July 28 at the NYC taping of her and Tony’s PBS jazz special, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek LIVE!
“When we were there, I sang a jazz song, ‘Orange Colored Sky,'” she said. “Tony heard me sing it, and he asked to meet me after the show. And I said, ‘Oh my gosh! Tony Bennett’s here!’ ”
Gaga admitted that she was “so nervous” to meet the legendary singer, but he was clearly already impressed by her talents! “He said, ‘Do you want to do a jazz album together?’ And I said, ‘Yes, of course I do!'”
“How about that?” Tony added to the mag, laughing.
This isn’t the first time Tony and Gaga have sung together. They also recorded a rendition of “The Lady is a Tramp” for his 2011 album, Duets II.
