Awful! When a pregnant woman asked the LAPD to cross a closed street so that she could get to a hospital, they told her absolutely not — because Barack Obama’s motorcade was moments away from passing through. Not cool.
A Los Angeles woman and her husband tried to cross the street so that they could get to Cedars Sinai Medical Center when the Los Angeles Police Department stopped them. The street the couple were trying to cross was blocked off because President Barack Obama’s motorcade was scheduled to pass through, and the LAPD would not take two minutes to help the woman in labor cross the street before the POTUS drove through. Do YOU think she should have been able to cross?
Pregnant Woman Blocked From Crossing The Street While In Labor
This is not going to help Obama’s approval ratings, that’s for sure.
On Wednesday, July 23, Mr. President and his motorcade were scheduled to pass right by Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. However, this proved to be a huge problem for one couple — especially the woman, who was in labor!
They politely asked the LAPD if they could cross the street despite the yellow tape and security barricades, but officers declined and asked them to wait because Barack was just a few minutes away.
The pregnant woman took a seat on a bench at a bus stop and waited while her husband stood by her side. Even as the woman suffered through her labor pains, the couple patiently waited for the motorcade to pass by — which it did just moments later, as the LAPD said it would — before finally trying once more.
Thankfully, the LAPD had an ambulance ready for the couple and it was the first vehicle let onto the street after the President passed by safe and sound.
It was later revealed that a nurse had gotten stuck on the same side of the street as the couple, so the woman was in good hands throughout her wait. An LAPD spokesperson later told the Daily Mail that the couple did not once mention that the woman was in labor, otherwise they may have prioritized her trip to the hospital.
While this story could have had a much worse ending, it turns out that the woman made it across the street and gave birth to a healthy baby inside the comfort of the hospital Yay, good news!
Congrats to the couple on their newborn baby — and major kudos to them for their patience!
