Ian is so smitten with Nikki that he reached out to his 5 million Twitter followers for help on her behalf! It seems like this is another indication of how much he’s starting to care for the new love of his life.
It looks like things are moving fast between Ian Somerhalder, 35, and his new girlfriend Nikki Reed, 26. Not only did the pair hit the farmer’s market in Studio City on July 20 and show major PDA, but now he’s taking up a cause very close to her heart — trying to find a home for a young pup.
Ian Somerhalder’s Nikki Reed Puppy Plea: His Sweet Tweet About Girlfriend’s Dog
Ian and Nikki have at least one big thing in common aside from playing vampires — they’re both strong animal rights advocates!
Nikki posted a photo of a sweet pit bull puppy named Kate on her Instagram account in hopes of finding her a permanent home. She captioned the photo with the following touching message:
Hey friends. This is Kate. She needs a new home, and believe me I would take her if I could. I know this dog inside and out. She is the sweetest most lovey cuddly ball of mushiness. She has lots and lots of energy, and needs to be the only pet. She gets jealous and is a classic pit when it comes to cats, squirrels etc. She is great with all people and kids. Super submissive. Would love for her to go to a home close by so everyone can still visit. Email me if you or someone you know can adopt her. Thanks!
Ian later leant a hand by reposting Nikki’s message on Twitter, encouraging his fans to help find a loving family for Kate:

Aww, we hope that between the two of them, they will be able to find this adorable pup a good home!
Ian Somerhalder Fights For Animal Rights In Capital Hill
On June 24, Ian headed to Capitol Hill, where he gave a speech urging Congress to end the commercial trade of ivory and the poaching of innocent elephants. Having witnessed the brutal poaching of African elephants first-hand, Ian was inspired to stand up for these gentle creatures that cannot speak for themselves.
The actor was also recently named a goodwill ambassador for Go Green, the United Nations’ environmental program. “You don’t have to be famous to help make a difference,” he told his fans on Twitter.
Is Nikki’s passion for helping dogs what sparked Ian’s interest in her? It probably didn’t hurt, as the two definitely seem to be enjoying dating!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do Ian and Nikki bring out the best in each other? Should they team up and fight for animal rights together? Let us know!
