Prince Philip also had “official engagements” and couldn’t attend.

The annual vacation to Scotland doesn’t begin until early August.
Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall are in Scotland but they are there to represent The Queen at the opening of the Commonwealth Games. The Queen normally does this engagement.
Prince Philip was at Buckingham Palace for a previously arranged engagement but The Duchess of Cambridge drove Prince George to Buckingham Palace before The Birthday Party to visit his
Great-Grandfather who was there with The Queen. After this visit The Queen attended the Party ta Kensington Palace.

First of all, one does not address The Queen as Your Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.
If you ever have the opportunity to meet The Queen, you address her as Your Majesty and during the course of your conversation refer to her as Ma’am.
Queen Elizabeth is a term used for her late mother, lovingly known as “The Queen Mother”.
Elizabeth II is known simply as “The Queen”!.

The Queen actually smiles a great deal. Why didn’t you mention how miserable Pippa looks?
The Queen has been extremely happy recently. This will annoy many Americans (I am Canadian) but The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla) is very close to both Her Majesty and Prince Philip. They adore her as do the sons of Prince Charles and the late Diana,The Princess of Wales.

It was, in fact, “Camilla” who was chosen by The Royal Household to take Catherine Middleton, now The Duchess of Cambridge, under her wing and train her in what is expected of her and the do’s and don’ts in her new position.

HRH Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall is in fact The Princess of Wales but she chose to not use this title to not cause any “fuss”. .

In closing, if you ever get to meet Prince George, he is HRH The Prince George of Cambridge and then address him as “Sir”!
