Just heartbreaking. TV and movie legend James Garner passed away on July 19 at his home. He was 86.

James Garner, beloved on both the TV and movie screen, has died at the age of 86. The actor, best known for starring roles on the television series’ The Rockford Files and Maverick, passed away of natural causes in his home on July 19, police said. What a loss of a true Hollywood legend.

So sad. James Garner, an actor who had one of the most illustrious careers in Hollywood, has died. The actor passed away on July 19 at the age of 86, police told ABC News. Police say he died of natural causes.

James was one of the first actors to enjoy success in both television and movies. He was widely known on television for his leading roles in The Rockford Files and Maverick. He won a Primetime Emmy for his role as Detective Jim Rockford in 1977.

However, James had quite the success in movies as well and he was one of the very first actors to excel in both realms. He starred in films such as The Great Escape in 1963, Grand Prix in 1966, Space Cowboys in 2000 and Murphy’s Romance in 1985. He received an Oscar nomination for his role in the latter.

James also had a starring role in the 2004 classic The Notebook, alongside Ryan GoslingRachel McAdams and Gena Rowlands. He played the older version of Ryan’s character.

The actor is survived by his wife, Lois Clarke. He married her after 14 days of just meeting her. He has one child with Lois, Greta “Gigi” Garner.

Our thoughts go out to James’ family and friends as they mourn this loss. Hollywood has lost a true icon.
