Nina and Ian, you are true relationship role models. You may have split up after a hot and heavy three-year romance but you really have remained the best of friends — hear that, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez?
Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder: Friendly Exes — It’s Amazing You’ve Stayed Close
Nina, you appear on the cover of the new issue of Nylon magazine, and inside your profile story, you go out of your way to make it extremely clear that you and Ian still have an excellent relationship.
“I don’t like any kind of negativity. I try to be good to everyone, whether it’s a love, a friend, an ex,” you told the mag.
Listen, you didn’t need to say ANYTHING at all, in a media interview, that could have been interpreted as a reference to your ex. Most celebrities wouldn’t have. But it seems that you have such a special relationship with Ian, whom you dated for three years, that you wanted to let your fans know that you two are respectful and cool with each other.
It’s lucky that you two ended your romance amicably because you’re both still the central stars in The Vampire Diaries, and together, you make up the passionately in love couple, Delena. As Delena, you have arguably THE most intense couple chemistry on TV. No matter that you broke up, your chemistry has remained intense on-screen — and off.
Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder — You’re Relationship Role Models
Nina, your Nylon interview is just the latest demonstration of your continuing deep affection for Ian. Delena fans will never forget how adorable you both were at the People’s Choice Awards on Jan. 9, 2013.
You two won the prize for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry that night, and you got up together and bantered hilariously, “It’s a good thing it’s not awkward” … “Well, it’s a good thing we have chemistry,” you said. That’s when Ian swooped in while you were laughing, kissed you on the cheek and added, “And yet our characters are still dating on the show.”
If that wasn’t impressive enough in the world of exes, Ian actually took to Twitter the very next day to send you even more public love on your 25th birthday. “The world loves you! We all do ;) Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!”, he tweeted.
Nina, even before your new Nylon interview, you weren’t afraid to speak out about how much you still liked Ian, and you joked about yourself too. “We’re cool, we’re friends and co-stars. He’s a great person, I’m a great person … I mean, I think I’m pretty awesome, so it doesn’t need to be awkward,” you told E!.
Probably the very greatest evidence of the friendliness of your post-breakup relationship, Nina, is that your mom still loves Ian! We all know how tough moms can be on men who they think may have wronged their daughters.
But when Ian appeared before Congress on June 24, 2014 to testify in support of animal rights and environmental protection, your mom, Michaela Constantine, took to Twitter to lend support:
Ian will be testifying in front of Congress at 2p.m.EST. He’ll tweet the streaming info, as soon as he gets it, so stay tuned

Now, there’s no way that your mother would be proud of Ian and promoting his Congressional appearance if she didn’t think he was treating her daughter right!
So congratulations, Nina and Ian, for being beyond civilized exes! Hollywood is full of opposite examples. Can we talk Brandi Glanville and Eddie Cibrian, Kelsey and Camille Grammar, Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, Katy Perry and Russell Brand … shall I list more?
You really deserve a giant high five for your ex success. And the best thing about staying on great terms with an ex is that it’s so easy to get back together! Delena fans are still hoping!
HollywoodLifers, do YOU think that Nina and Ian still love each other? Let me know.
