Ouch. Country star Joe Nichols performed ‘God Bless America’ at the MLB All-Star Game on July 15 and it was… not good. Watch the video, find out what people have been saying on Twitter, and let us know what you think!

There is possibly nothing worse for an artist than to perform a patriotic song at a sporting event and to totally miss the mark. At the MLB All-Star Game on July 15, country star Joe Nichols suffered that particular fate. His performance of “God Bless America” was preeeetty painful. We’re sure that the Grammy nominee was just having an off day — and surely, everyone has them — but this was a spectacularly off day for Joe. Find out what people have been saying on Twitter and watch the video!

Joe Nichols’ ‘God Bless America’ Performance At MLB All-Star Game — Watch His Butchered Rendition

To Joe’s credit, he kind of looked like he was in the weeds, like he knew that he was in a speeding train that was actively derailing off its tracks. His performance was totally passionless, and the only applause that he received was when photos of the troops flashed on the Jumbotron.

MLB fans were not shy in expressing their disbelief in his performance on Twitter:

Yikes.

Joe Nichols Is A Three-Time Grammy Nominee

However, keep in mind that this kind of performance is not typical from the 37-year-old country star. Joe is a three-time Grammy Award nominee, and when he broke out onto the country scene, he won the award for Top New Male Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2003. His most recent album, Crickets, was released in 2013 to generally positive critical acclaim.

Joe is married to Heather Singleton, whom he has known since they were both 19 years old. They raise three children together (one of whom is from a previous relationship of Joe’s), so, let’s not be too harsh on the guy! But, well, credit where credit is due — his performance of “God Bless America” was no bueno.

But what did you think of Joe’s performance of “God Bless America,” HollywoodLifers? Do you agree that it was awful, or are you a Joe Nichols fan? Let us know!

Wow, the ridiculousness of this persecution is beyond me. Was he lip syncing? No. Was he off tune? No. God forbid Joe doesn’t throw his head back and screech the words out to the world like most NON COUNTRY artists feel the need to. While slightly in the quick side, this was a good performance by an AMAZING artist, and he sounded true to form. Just because mainstream music gets dragged into the dirt continuously doesn’t mean you have to try to drag down a genre that puts many others to shame with hyped up fiddle faddle.
