The Bright Eyes frontman was accused by Joanie Faircloth of raping her but now she’s publicly retracting her accusations that almost derailed his career.

Conor Oberst must be breathing a huge sigh of relief. The Bright Eyes singer was viciously accused by Joan Elizabeth Harris of raping her but she claims that she made it all up because she was going through a difficult time.

In a shocking turn of events, Joan, who claimed that Conor raped her when she was 16-years-old, says that she lied, according to BuzzFeed.

Conor’s accuser made a statement that explains what she claims happened and her motive to make up something so damaging.

The statements I made and repeated online and elsewhere over the past six months accusing Conor Oberst of raping me are 100% false. I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son’s illness. I publicly retract my statements about Conor Oberst, and sincerely apologize to him, his family and his fans for writing such awful things about him. I realize that my actions were wrong and could undermine the claims of actual sexual assault victims and for that I also apologize. I’m truly sorry for all the pain that I caused. The accusations emerged last December in the comments section of an XO Jane article titled ‘It Happened to Me: I Dated a Famous Rock Star & All I Got Was Punched in the Face.’ A then-anonymous commenter claimed to have been raped by Oberst. She gave a detailed narrative of meeting the songwriter at age 16 via her English teacher, who happened to be his older brother.

Conor filed a lawsuit against Joan for more than one million dollars in damages because he claims she caused him to lose deals because of the negative press.

This all started when Joanie made her accusations in the comments section of an xoJane article published in 2013. At the time, Conor’s publicist said: “Ms. Faircloth had no physical contact with Mr. Oberst at the Durham, NC show she claimed was the location of the alleged sexual assault.”

HollywoodLifers, are you shocked Conor’s accuser lied?
